Our Story

Fieldmouse Press is a nonprofit comics publisher with a vision - that comics should be a place for every person and every story. We started publishing books in 2021 with Ariel Bordeaux's CLUTTER, and over the last year have been putting together this amazing slate of books. 

We are planning to publish four individual books by four amazing creators this season, and our goal (even though it's a tight turnaround) is to have these books debut at SPX in Bethesda Maryland, September 17th-18th, with the fulfillment of pledges shortly thereafter.

The goal of this project is to fully fund the printing of these four books. We've carefully budgeted printing costs, design costs, and accounted for hidden variables and potential additional fees (like recent paper price increases). We've got everything ready to go, but we need your help to make these four books a reality!

For all Fieldmouse Press projects, our artists are paid advances for their work and receive an artist-centered royalty on all sales after costs for printing are recouped. 📚 🐭 💖

Backing the Project

Backing a Crowdfundr campaign is a little different than other crowdfunding platforms you might be used to. Click the perk you're interested on the right hand side of the page, and add it to your cart. You'll check out after selecting the perks you want, and money will be collected immediately. You can add multiple perks to your cart before checkout, so if you want multiple books but not the whole season, (or if you want multiple copies of the same book), you can do that before checkout.

Shipping and fulfillment are calculated at checkout on a per-item basis - if you want to back multiple items and want to save on shipping, email us at crowdfundr@fieldmouse.press and we can get you a promo code to lower shipping costs.

The Books

Noëlle Kröger, trans. Natalye Childress - Good Person Trouble, 100 pages, perfect-bound soft cover

We are very excited to publish Noëlle's English debut. Last year, Good Person Trouble was the winner of the 2021 GINCO Award!

Ellen O'Grady - Magic Nation #1, 40+ page minicomic

Come visit Ellen O’Grady’s  Magic Nation  in this first printed installment of her ongoing autobiography. O’Grady’s delicate line and vibrant color lead readers through the wooded explorations of O’Grady’s childhood. Originally published on  SOLRAD , this revised and expanded edition of  Magic Nation #1  is a must have for readers of John Porcellino, Summer Pierre, and Glynnis Fawkes.

Phoebe Mol - Fish Out of Water, 32 page minicomic

Phoebe Mol takes readers through an abstract and strange world where grotesque fish, polluted lakes, and the work of Clarice Lispector all bleed through the thin veneer of reality. Mol’s vivid colors and strange, disjointed narrative recall the work of Noel Freibert, JULIACKS, and Margot Ferrick in this stunning mini-comic debut.

Daryl Seitchik - Now & Other Dreams, 212 pages, perfect-bound soft cover

Now & Other Dreams collects a selection of comics by Daryl Seitchik, made between 2012 and 2022. Seitchik’s sharp line and inimitable voice guide the reader down into the depths of the unconscious, and through the mundane, mystical absurdities of being alive.

Funding Goal

Our funding goal is $19,500 USD. These funds will be used to directly pay for printing and transportation of the books back to our warehouse, as well as for processing fees, book design fees, and translation fees. Here is the breakdown of our costs:

We're offering a variety of packages, including previously published work, to help fund this print run, but we need your help to make this season a reality. 

For supporters who are used to Kickstarter, you'll see something missing in this graph - fulfillment! Shipping and fulfillment costs are applied during check-out when you support the project.

Risks

Fieldmouse Press has successfully funded and fulfilled a previous crowdfunding campaign through Kickstarter, so we have the experience of crowdfunding under our belts. We are working with the amazing folks at White Squirrel Distribution to help make sure that packages get out quickly and efficiently. We were able to complete our campaign with Ariel Bordeaux's CLUTTER on time and with no damaged items on returns.  We have done all the pre-work to make sure that this campaign with be successful.

However, risks remain, especially with transportation and the uncertainty of the COVID pandemic. Books may be damaged on transit or may not be printed to specifications. We are working with US-based and Canadian printers for this season in order to reduce the risk of transportation delays from overseas shipping. We expect to be able to start shipping books in October, but have given ourselves until November to completely fulfill this campaign.  We promise to keep our supporters up to date with any news, including delays and uncertainties, as we work through the campaign process.
