We've been growing lately, taking on more actors in our differently-abled troupe and we need to move into a larger theatre space for our next big show: VOICES!

We've also had to add to our team a much-needed producer administrator.

Rising Sun Theatre has been serving the Edmonton area community as a non-profit organization since 2004, providing adults with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to create and perform their own plays, and giving the public a chance to share our joy , creativity and our troupe's many real abilities and talents. With our differently-abled troupe, volunteers and professional theatre leaders and facilitators, we make magic happen and transform lives!

Over the years we’ve had the privilege of seeing the impact our work has had on the members of our actor-creator team. Our work has helped build members' confidence, skills in communication, self-expression, and teamwork and has given them a voice in the community. For all of us in the organization and for our audiences, it’s been a joyous gift to see actor-creators come out of their shell, share their ideas and show audiences their many abilities. Storytelling is for everyone!

Here's what we recently heard from a caregiver to one of the actors in our company: "He has just been transformed by being in your theatre company. I've never seen him like this! He's happier and more active, he talks a lot about the theatre, he goes out and talks with more people, is more confident and shares more of his thoughts and feelings with me. It's amazing!"

Last season brought many wonderful milestones. From our successful special event, Magic & Music 3, where we exceeded our goal (Thank You!), to our sold-out show, WICKED DISASTER, we are looking forward to what the future holds for the whole Rising Sun team. We hope to grow and serve the community in more ways and provide more opportunities for the differently-abled among us. But we need your support to grow our services..

Since we make our shows available to even those on low incomes, our ticket sales don’t bring in a lot of revenue. We’re only able to carry on our work through your community contributions.
