Rising Sun Theatre Society provides opportunities in Edmonton , Alberta for adults with intellectual disabilities, facilitated by theatre professionals, to collaboratively create and perform their original plays for the public. We started in 2004 in connection with SKILLS Society, then incorporated separately as a non-profit Alberta Society in 2007.  We've produced 18 new plays and a movie in the years since then, performed at the Saskatoon Fringe and many Edmonton venues, and we won the Telus Mayor's Award for Artistic Innovation in 2009. We're all about joy! Our actors benefit greatly from our work, developing many theatre, communication and social skills as well as pride and self-esteem. For our audiences, we break down barriers between persons with disabilities and the general public and we spread the joy. We depend upon community support in order to keep going, so your support is vital to  our survival and our continued work in changing lives for the better in our community.
