Two Projects. One Year. Big challenge.
This year I will attempt to bring two projects to Burning Man — all 3 ORBs, which will complete the trilogy, and Petaled Portal, an existing 27-foot stained glass and steel sculpture that has been awarded a Burning Man Honararia grant.
I'm heading to Vegas in April (when the first grant check comes in) to spend the month repairing Petaled — that trip has been a long time coming. Then it's back to my studio at the Mendocino Stone Ranch in Gualala — where I'll try to pull off my mission: build ORB3 from scratch and bring all four sculptures to Black Rock City this summer.
That's the challenge. Here's the gap.
I'm in a tight window right now — waiting on funds that don't land until early April. I've spent the last three weeks gutting an old Airstream I was converting into a live/work space — until I found it was too far gone with black mold. So I pivoted. The trailer is now becoming a glass studio. I'll live in a canvas bell tent on a small wood platform on the property.
Only problem: I'm down to my last few hundred dollars. My current space — a yurt on the ranch — has been rented out.
If you've followed the work, believed in it, or just want to help a sculptor bridge a very specific and very real gap before a very big year — now's the moment. Every dollar helps get ORBs launched before I head to Vegas, and get Petaled back on its feet early in the game, and then take a real run at finishing the ORBs trilogy.
