THE SELF CARE GREEN BOOK & WELLNESS TRAVEL GUIDE
A Holistic Roadmap for Black Women to Care for Our Minds, Bodies & Spirits, Unlearn What Limits Us, and Build a Legacy of Wellness for Generations to Come
Help Me Raise $300,000 to Create the Book and Trusted Wellness Resource We Deserve.
What if Black women had a trusted roadmap for wellness, one created holistically and specifically with us in mind?
So many of us are piecing together our self-care routines with little guidance, little support, and no one who has walked the road ahead of us.
I know because I was one of those women.
I created From Domi With Love and decided to write The Self Care Green Book because I had to navigate my healing journey and the wellness industry largely on my own. As I found my way, I kept thinking about the woman facing the same journey without the time, money, or capacity to figure it all out through trial and error.
I'm creating the roadmap I wish I had.
I am raising $300,000 to make two deeply connected projects possible:
1. Write and publish The Self Care Green Book , my travel memoir rooted in wellness, love, self-discovery, and the lessons I learned along the way.
2. Research, personally experience, review, compile, and publish its companion Self Care Travel Guide for Black women, a trusted and evolving resource for holistic wellness of the mind, body, and spirit.
This is bigger than telling my story.
This will make the road easier for the women navigating without map. Long-term this will expand awareness, inclusivity, representation, and access to wellness resources.
Why This Matters?
Too many women know how to take care of everyone except themselves.
Too many of us are successful but exhausted.
Accomplished but disconnected.
Alive, but not fully living.
And too many women are navigating wellness by piecing together TikToks, Google searches, recommendations, expensive experiments, and conflicting information.
I am building something better.
A trusted roadmap created with Black women in mind.
A resource that says:
Here is what I tried.
Here is what I learned.
Here are the questions to ask.
Here is what you should know.
Here is what might be worth exploring.
And most importantly:
Here is what you can take home and apply to your actual life.
But I don't want to create something useful for only this generation.
This resource can serve generations to come.
A living directory that helps make knowledge about caring for our minds, bodies, and spirits easier to find, understand, explore, and pass down.
Because one of the most powerful things we can leave the next generation is not simply what we accumulated.
It is what we learned.
I want The Self Care Green Book to elevate a message we don't hear often enough in our communities: taking exceptional care of ourselves is not selfish, frivolous, or something we earn after taking care of everyone else. It is foundational.
And this roadmap will be rooted in reality.
It will acknowledge the limiting beliefs many of us have accumulated from family, culture, community, work, relationships, and simply surviving in the world: that rest must be earned, that struggle proves our strength, that putting ourselves first is selfish, that asking for help is weakness, that success requires sacrifice at any cost, or that caring for ourselves can always wait until later.
Some of those messages helped generations before us survive.
But survival does not have to be the ceiling for the generations coming after us.
We get to examine what we inherited.
Keep what serves us.
Question what doesn't.
And unlearn what prevents us from being well.
That is what this project is to become:
A holistic map for taking the best possible care of our minds, bodies, and spirits, grounded in the realities of our lives and designed to be passed forward.
Not just information.
Generational knowledge.
Not just self-care.
A different inheritance.
One where our daughters, nieces, sisters, friends, and the women coming behind us don't have to spend decades discovering that they are allowed to prioritize their own well-being.
They will already know.
Why The Self Care Green Book?
The Self Care Green Book is my travel memoir. It charts not only my journey through wellness, but the places I traveled that, as a Black girl who did not come from money in San Diego, I never imagined I would make it to.
But the destinations are only part of the story.
The book is about what happened to me along the way and the lessons I learned that can apply to us all, lessons rooted in wellness, self-love, courage, and choosing yourself.
I checked every box society told me to.
HBCU graduate. Master's in Architecture. Peace Corps service in Botswana, Africa. A federal government career in New York City. Executive leadership. And throughout much of my career, I was often the only Black woman on my team.
I achieved. I struggled but I made it.
And when I reached the summit, I felt dissapointment. I had worked so hard thinking I would feel happy at the end, but no. I was not happy because reaching my career goals was not enough.
That realization changed the direction of my life.
What followed was a journey across more than 15 countries and countless healing modalities that taught me something no degree, title, relationship, or achievement ever had:
A life that looks good is not the same as a life that feels good.
Learning to love yourself enough to build the second one may be the greatest investment you ever make.
That journey became The Self Care Green Book .
Travel is a huge part of my story. Wellness is a huge part of my story.
But this book is about something much bigger.
It is about the mindsets and practices that gave me the courage to travel across the world, take chances, leave relationships that were not serving me, question the definitions of success I inherited, trust myself, dream bigger, and ultimately rebuild my life with intentional loving design.
It is about learning to choose yourself.
I learned that we each have the power to make our everyday lives feel more like the lives we travel to escape to, if we bring that same level of intention, curiosity, and planning home with us.
Self-love isn't simply bubble baths, massages, or vacations.
Self-love is believing your joy matters and acting on that knowing now.
Self-love is trusting yourself enough to take the chance before you know how everything will work out.
Self-love is building a life that feels as good on the inside as it looks from the outside.
That is the roadmap I want to give other women.
What I Am Building?
I am raising $300,000 to create two connected resources.
The first is The Self Care Green Book , my travel memoir about the places I traveled, the lessons I learned, and the mindsets and wellness practices that transformed how I live.
The second is its companion Self Care Travel Guide for Black women , a trusted, evolving wellness resource built through firsthand experience.
I will personally explore retreats, practitioners, destinations, and modalities including hypnotherapy, acupuncture, breathwork, bodywork, meditation, energy work, movement, rest, spiritual practices, and more.
And I won't simply tell you whether the spa was beautiful.
I want to answer the questions I wish someone had answered for me:
What does this modality actually involve?
What are its intended wellness benefits?
What should a Black woman know before walking through this door?
How accessible and inclusive is it?
What questions should she ask?
What did the experience actually feel like?
And what information can help her decide whether it belongs in her own self-care plan?
Then I will bring what I learn back and make it accessible.
Think of it as part travel guide, part wellness encyclopedia, and part trusted friend who went ahead, asked the questions, experienced it herself, and came back with notes.
Because women shouldn't have to start from zero every time.
Why Am I Uniquely Built to Create This ?
Because I didn't study this journey from a distance.
I lived it.
I know what it means to be a high-achieving Black woman who can accomplish almost anything and still realize something inside her is asking for more.
And I know what it takes to answer that call.
I have spent more than 15 years traveling, questioning, experimenting, learning, healing, rebuilding, and turning those experiences into knowledge.
Today, as a clinical hypnotherapist, Kemetic Reiki practitioner, and breathwork facilitator, I help others explore their own paths toward wellness.
My background as a trained architect matters, too.
I am analytical by nature.
I research.
I question.
I look for patterns.
I examine how things work and how individual pieces come together to create an entire system.
Now I want to apply that same mind to wellness.
My value is not simply that I have traveled.
It is not simply that I have experienced wellness modalities.
It is the combination of lived experience, professional training, analytical rigor, curiosity, discernment, ethics, and the willingness to go first and report back honestly.
I don't just want to tell women to choose themselves. I want to build the tools that help them understand how.
Why $300,000?
I'm ambitious, and my vision is ambitious.
Doing this with integrity requires more than writing a manuscript.
Your contribution will fund the writing and publication of the book, travel and firsthand research, wellness experiences and modalities, interviews with practitioners, fact-checking, documentation, photography, design, production, and development of the companion guide.
You are funding my investigation.
You are investing in someone with lived experience, professional wellness training, an analytical mind, deep curiosity, and an uncompromising commitment to ethics, and giving her the resources to go into the world, ask questions, experience what is being offered, examine it thoughtfully, and bring that knowledge back.
That is what you are investing in when you invest in me.
And I cannot build it at this scale alone.
If this mission speaks to you, please donate.
If you believe Black women deserve greater access to trustworthy wellness information, please donate.
If a woman you love has spent too much of her life putting herself last, donate in her honor.
If you believe knowledge becomes more powerful when we share it, help me create the roadmap.
And if you cannot donate, share this campaign with someone who can.
The Self Care Green Book is not simply about where I've been.
It is about what I learned while getting there.
It is about making that knowledge useful.
It is about leaving breadcrumbs, and not the kind we're used to accepting.
It is about creating a trusted resource so another woman doesn't have to begin her journey with nothing but questions.
The original Negro Motorist Green Book helped Black travelers navigate a world in which knowing where they could safely eat, sleep, and stop was essential.
The Self Care Green Book carries forward that spirit of trusted navigation for a different journey: helping us navigate the internal and external terrains of our lives with more information, intention, discernment, self-love, and possibility.
Because ultimately, I believe this:
When a woman learns to choose herself, she changes more than her own life.
She changes what she accepts.
What she believes is possible.
How she loves.
How she leads.
What she teaches her children.
And what the next generation believes it deserves.
This is not just a book.
This is not just a travel guide.
It's the beginning of a movement toward a happier, healthier, and higher way of being.
Help me build it.
Donate. Share. And help me create the roadmap I wish someone had given me.
With so much love, Domi
