Hello! My name is Jack Kidd and I am the writer & director of Scratch.

Scratch is a short film that I wrote in a screenwriting class back in college in 2019. It is horror based while focusing on youthful summers + living in the late 90s in midwest Indiana. All Easter eggs pointing back to my life as a kid being from the midwest.

After wanting to bring this story to life for years, 2026 felt like the right time. After rereading the script and making some tweaks, I am happy to say we are in the beginning stages of Scratch finally being brought to life. I am partnering with one of my good friends, Max Anderson, who will assist direct this project with me. He has a great eye for detail and also studied film production in college just like I did.

Our story focuses on Liam, who is ready to spend the first day of summer vacation with his girlfriend, Emily. However, Liam finds himself at the center of something sinister when a sickness begins spreading throughout town.

Inspiration

I have a huge love for 80s + 90s films, especially the sci-fi and horror genre. This short film takes inspiration from some of my favorite shows and movies like, Children of the Corn (1984), Weapons (2025), and Stranger Things 3 (2019). My goal is to bring this short film to life while paying homage to these shows and movies that inspired me in the first place.
