Introduction:
The creation of "Maximus A+" was born from a combination of personal experience and a deep-seated desire to impact the educational landscape positively. This sentiment echoed my own childhood frustrations, sparking a determination to change how young children perceive and engage with math reading and spelling. I envisioned a character that looked like him that could he could relate to and who could transform one of many subjests math being one of them, from a daunting subject into an exhilarating and approachable adventure.
Development of Maximus:
Drawing inspiration from my love of storytelling and fantasy, I created Maximus, a young African American math wizard whose adventures would make math engaging and fun. The character of Maximus was designed to be relatable and inspiring, reflecting diversity and showcasing intelligence, creativity, and problem-solving skills. I wanted children, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, to see themselves in Maximus and believe in their own potential to excel in subjects like math.
Educational Goals:
"Maximus A+" was created not just as entertainment but as a tool to foster educational growth. The show integrates core math concepts into each episode, using stories that involve puzzles and challenges that Maximus and his friends must solve using math. This approach aims to build confidence in young viewers, showing them that math is not only manageable but crucial in everyday problem-solving and critical thinking.
