Lost and Found is a short film about a Jewish lesbian couple whose marriage is threatened by the loss of a pregnancy and who find their way back by visiting a mikvah.

Stories of Jewish hope are few and far between these days. Though this film will begin on a sad note, it will conclude with optimism and hope for a loving future for the couple.

My characters, Zoe and Lila, represent a point of view not often seen in modern media - that of Jewish lesbians. While I am thrilled that communities like mine are open and affirming of all types of love, the same cannot always be said of the most traditional communities in our tribe. Lila and Zoe are inspired in part by the stories of many who have had to leave their communities due to the lack of acceptance they faced after they came out. They find themselves severed, from their families, from their communities, and from their faiths. It is an incredibly painful event.

Zoe and Lila, likewise, were forced to leave the community of their birth in order to live as a married couple. In turn, they have a complicated relationship with their Judaism, but it is where they turn when they are at their wit's end. There, they find the peace that Jewish traditions can bring when practiced in a way that focuses on healing and comfort.

I am here to raise funds for the production of this film. The money I raise will go to secure locations and insurance; pay for stipends and food for our cast and crew; and buy props, costume pieces, and set dressing. As a graduate film student, I need your help to make this film happen.

Finally, Lost and Found will be dedicated to my grandmother, Eleanor Margulis, who died in September. She was a woman who loved life, loved her family, loved our culture. She also adored art and film, and was a frequent patron of the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival.
