We need your help to bring this project to life at Burning Man 2024!

Hi there, we're Amy Romanello and Zach Dunton 👋🏻

We are raising funds for our latest project, It's All Salt: a 12ft tall wooden brain 🧠, created by transforming digital brain MRI scans into a climbable and interactive sculpture.

Each slice of the installation comes from the brain scan of a different person. Throughout the piece, participants will find buttons, which when pressed play audio recordings from the individuals who donated their scans - sharing the stories behind the brains.

Over the last few months, we've gathered MRI brain scans from participants around the world who volunteered to share their stories and experiences with us. With their trust and our expertise, we've completed a small-scale model of the sculpture in Berlin, Germany.

Now, it's time to start the fabrication of our full-scale sculpture in Reno, Nevada - while we continue setting our logistical, build and burn plans in motion. That's right...we're burning this brain too 🔥

The Impact

By participating in our crowdfunding campaign, you will be providing vital support for the creation of a unique and interactive art installation that serves as a unified representation of a deeply personal, often isolating event: imaging of the brain in an attempt to understand an experience, symptom or behavior of unknown origin.

Your financial contribution is pivotal in realizing our dream to create a space to reflect on the beauty and absurdity of the brain, and - quite literally - touch and hear the stories of community members whose brains are etched into the wood of the sculpture itself. Many of the brains depicted in the piece belong to individuals who live with neurological disease and neurodivergence - your support will allow us to raise awareness about these experiences, to honor the resiliency and complexity of the human brain, and to give a platform to those sharing the stories behind their brains.

What We Need & What You Get

With your help, we (and our incredible team) will be able to:

• utilize build space and machinery at The Generator in Reno, Nevada
• purchase lumber, hardware, tools, and other materials
• light and power the sculpture using a solar set-up
• store and transport project materials to and from Black Rock City
• deliver a range of exciting perks to our supporters, including: personalized thank-you postcards sent from the Playa, limited-edition project swag, jewelry, fine art prints - to name a few!

Your contribution is NOT used for:

• personal expenses
• artist fees or any profit to the creators

Who We Are

By day, Amy is a neuroscientist specializing in MRI data analysis and Zach is a DevOps engineer and fabricator. By nights (and weekends), we are Nothing Two Serious: a duo creating interactive installations that live at the intersection of science, art, and shared experiences.
