Arcane Atlas Games hasn't added a story.
" The characters we created playing Haunting return to me sometimes, like ghosts of fictitious ghosts. Their stories were funny, horrifying, and tragic—and that was just in one session. The game provides the structure and prompts you need, yet the rules are simple enough you can learn them as you go."
- James Hanna (Fey Light Studio)
Haunting is a two player game about a sentient House that wants to devour its occupants.
The players will work together to tell the story of those who dare to live in the house, the changes they make and how the house inevitably becomes vacant once more.
The supernatural events of the game are recorded in a journal or through drawing the house itself (either designing one yourself or using the handy play sheet that we've made for the game).
Are you brave enough to tell such stories? The house is waiting…
Haunting already exists in digital form. It was created in 2021 as our entry to the Lost & Found jam and is based on the Lost & Found SRD by Jack Harrison (Mousehole Press).
The Lost & Found system is designed to create solo games that tell the story of an object over the lifetimes of many users. As we love playing games together, we added a 2-player element for our haunted house setting. The house became the 'object', and its occupants became the 'users'.
Our art was inspired by taking everyday objects, and making them just a little bit unsettling. Combined with a simple 3-colour palette, we laid out a game that we are really proud of and can't wait to bring into physical form.
Finally, in playtesting we experimented with ways of documenting and decided that we loved the idea of being able to draw the changes that occur to the house over time, by both the people that live there and how they are haunted by the house.
Periods of reflection while listening to a soundtrack are a key part of the Lost & Found system, and Haunting is no exception.
As part of our print run, we are excited to release Haunting’s dedicated soundtrack. You can now use a series of atmospheric soundscapes accompany the periods of rest in the game.
You can check out the soundtrack here.
Our goal for this campaign is to raise money to produce printed copies of the game and to pay our team for the work that we have put into making the game.
The physical edition will be a staple-bound, full colour A5 zine. The zine will be printed on recycled paper and will consist of 40 pages, including the cover.
We will be working with the fantastic Peregrine Coast
Press and ratti
incantati to handle fulfilment.
Once the books are printed and we have received them, you will be given a promotional code for one of our fulfilment partners websites, allowing you to arrange the delivery of your physical copy and pay for the exact shipping costs.
Yes, you can! We are going to be giving the digital copy of the game away for free whilst the campaign is running, so anyone who wants to play can have the chance to get spooky with a friend.
You can pick up your free copy here.
