Who We Are:

Jen Hacker

I have a lot of experience in the food & beverage industry, like 29 years of it!!!! in Azkaban!! All jokes aside, all of these years were spent been right here in the South Bend region. I’ve been serving, bartending, managing, developing beverage programs, and even moved into sales and distribution of wine and spirits. Alcohol has been engrained in every part of my life since an early age, but in May of 2024 I decided it was taking too much of a toll on my health and relationships. I decided to explore what a life without alcohol would look like for me, someone that is deeply passionate about the alcohol industry, and I have to tell y’all it was boring!! Soda water, iced tea, lemonade, soda, and the occasional N.A. beer or over priced ‘mocktail’ just didn’t hit like a craft beer or a well made cocktail, adding in the social pressure to drink made it a really rough couple of months. Then came a call, a group looking for a bartender for a sober party, and there I was answering: getting creative, discovering new ingredients and processes and totally geeking out about the new world of Non Alc! That one event sparked new connections and by the end of the night we had leads on another handful of events! It turns out I wasn’t the only one craving a new way to imbibe!

In my everyday life I run Craft One Half, a cocktail bar and restaurant, and I pull my hair out parenting three kids. I have been bartending for 10 years and working in hospitality since I was 15. I’ve competed in programs like Speed Rack, been part of PDXCW, and attended Camp Runamok. This industry isn’t a hobby for me, it’s what I’ve built my life around. I enjoy creating experiences and spaces, and I believe hospitality should be intentional, welcoming, and actually thoughtful about the people in the room.

After becoming sober-ish over a year ago, I wanted a place to go where I could still get a good drink but didn’t want the presence of alcohol to be the focus. I still love cocktails and gathering people. I just don’t believe alcohol has to be the center of every experience.
