"Lukso ng dugo" is a Filipino saying that refers to a strong, innate bond that brings relatives together. Dedicated to all disconnected families out there, this short film presents that no matter how distant family can be, our blood will always lead us back to one another.

The summer of 2016 begins, and Mila finishes her last day of high school. Exhausted, she heads home and stays in her room for hours listening to music and scrolling through social media.

It is not too late until her mother, Maria, enters the room and introduces her to Lolo Lino. Never meeting her father's dad before, Mila is very awkward and reluctant to build a connection with him. She fights the urge to get close to Lolo in fear of losing him, just like she lost her father, Mike.

Lolo makes an effort to get to know her but every chance he gets, Mila is already gone. It's now up to Mila to face her tragic past and find the courage to get to know her grandfather.

I wrote this film as a love letter to the grandparents I never met.

I grew up only hearing stories and seeing photos of my grandparents from both sides, but I could not help but wonder how different I would be if I had met them. It was not easy seeing my friends have that relationship I've always wanted, but instead of sulking about it, I decided to write my junior thesis film on it.

I hope this film helps me learn more about a grandparent and grandchild dynamic, and heals the inner child that never got to experience this kind of relationship.
