Kooshma “The Origin”
Logline: A slave who becomes caught up in an affair with a plantation owners wife resulting in his death followed by , with the help of Voodoo magic, revenge upon those responsible.
Dear
My name is Dytania Johnson (49)years of age. My contact information is dytaniaj@gmail.com. This script is based upon the first book of the KOOSHMA trilogy.
“Kooshma: The Origin” is a horror story with deep roots in cajun voodoo and culture set in the 1800s on a plantation, Kooshma is a slave who was bought at a young age for the purposes of breeding on the WIlcox Plantation. Kooshma grows into a handsome and desirable man, who catches the eye of the lonely wife of the plantation owner.
Mrs. Wilcox, the wife of the plantation owner, is very much unlike most women of her time. She is devious and manipulative, which is evident when she coaxes Kooshma into an affair by threatening him and his family. Her role as a female lead is unique to this particular time period giving this script something different and unconventional.
The affair lasts for several years but is eventually discovered. When the affair comes to light Mrs. Wilcox in no way takes responsibility for her actions and allows Kooshma and his family to pay the price for her sins. Kooshma and his family is forced to suffer a cruel torture followed by death, which was not swift or merciful.
Shackled in a deep dark cellar with no access to light, food, or water for days, Kooshma knows that death is coming and so, he calls upon the Voodoo magic of his people to help him at this most desperate hour. A Voodoo Witch appears and grants Kooshma his last request but Kooshma did not fully understand what he was asking the witch or the ramifications it would have. Kooshma , with his dying breath sells his soul to the Voodoo Witch and in return is given his revenge upon the WIlcox’s and all who have the Wilcox blood running through their veins.
Kooshma’s revenge is carried through the dreams of his victims. The Voodoo Witch uses Kooshma’s rage to feed herself for the sake of her immortality while allowing him to torture and mulitate his victims in their dreams. The victim, asleep in bed in the physical, is completely unaware of what is happening however the effect of the beatings and mutilations is felt mentally in such a way that the victim never wakes up again while their soul is consumed by the voodoo witch. This phenomenon in today’s society is commonly known as sleep apnea, but in the 1800s it was easily mistaken for an aneurysm.
Mrs. Wilcox’s guilt drives her mad and eventually kills herself, but not before she gives birth to a child, Kooshma’s child. Before her death she watches as her whole family is slaughtered and her children are burned alive. Leaving only one child alive, Kooshma’s half-blooded son, to be raised by the Voodoo witch that had driven his mother mad and ransomed his father’s soul. A Voodoo Witch who with little doubt would use the child in every evil way possible.
