Help Me Keep Jamaican Patois Alive One Word at a Time
My name is Rebecca, and I'm the creator of The Patois Buzz, a project created from love, resilience, and a deep passion for preserving Jamaican culture.
Like many Jamaicans, my life changed after the hurricane. My home was damaged, my family went without electricity for months, and rebuilding has been incredibly difficult. Even while facing those challenges, I refused to give up on my dream. Instead of letting hardship define me, I chose to create something that celebrates who we are as Jamaicans.
That's how The Patois Buzz was born.
My mission is to make Jamaican Patois fun, easy, and accessible for people all over the world. Whether you're Jamaican, part of the diaspora, visiting the island, or simply fascinated by our rich culture, I want to help you learn the language that carries our history, humour, and spirit.
This project includes digital learning resources such as:
- The 100 Jamaican Patois Words & Phrases guide.
- A beginner-friendly practice workbook filled with activities and quizzes.
- Fun content featuring Buzzley, my mascot, who helps make learning enjoyable.
- Future learning tools, journals, audio resources, and merchandise that celebrate Jamaican culture.

I'm crowdfunding because I don't have the financial resources to grow this project on my own. The funds will help me improve the learning materials, create new content, pay for illustrations and design, market the project to a wider audience, purchase the tools I need to create consistently, and continue rebuilding after the devastation caused by the hurricane.
