Below is a longer description of this publication:
BOWLING – A WOMAN’S WORLD (WORKING TITLE)
A fictional (or is it?) history of the glorious sport of bowling. Since the dawn of our species this sport, originally invented by women for an escape from the daily stresses of survival in a pre-historic world, unexpectedly became a beacon of female empowerment and strength. As the world evolved and continued the modernize, women’s bowling also continued to change with the times and offer women the outlet and escape one needed, no matter what the year was. And eventually, the Bowling Alley, morphed into a destination where women could comfortably gather to crush the patriarchy, escape the constraints of the male dominated world, as well as freely consort and share ideas and theories, thereby developing a homogenous mutual belief in what constitutes a strong sexual identity and what beauty truly is on their terms with no outside objections or constraints coming from the outside male-dominated society. Over time, these female bowlers became regarded and idolized as strong, brave, and independent warriors and protectors of women’s rights and the equal place in society for all women. From voting rights and the Civil Rights movement up to present day with the current battle over reproductive rights, women bowlers have remained unified in fighting for what is right for all women.
This sport, and the women who made it so popular, soon permeated and influenced all corners of popular culture and modern life, including the more dark and underground aspect of society, including witchcraft, black magic and paganism. (salem witch trials maybe include) And it wasn’t only in the United States, this was a worldwide influence felt on all continents. Religions, governments, traditional customs were all influenced, and sometimes altered, by women’s bowling. This female sport, and the women who made it so undeniably popular, became the most popular, trendy, and desired subject matter in nearly all fields of entertainment: literature, art, comics, cinema, fashion and music. This dominant hold on society eventually led to advertisers and big businesses to clamor to use (or abuse) this power to attract male attention and expand the sport to men, and well as to make millions of dollars in profit.
Being that the female body is one of the most captured and interpreted subjects in art, it was only a matter of time before women bowlers were rendered by artists everywhere as luscious, scantily clad, sensual, nude objects of desire. Advertisements became popular promoting the sport and bowling related items for wives and girlfriends in order that they more resemble female bowlers. Like all forms of art, some were created better than others. Some female bowlers were rendered in a classic style, with grace and elegance. Other works are far more sexual and risqué, especially during the sexual revolution. While some of this art was celebrated and lauded for its greatness, other art created a lot of controversy and pushback.
This long and storied history of this majestic sport is unapologetically chronicled in this historic book. Through the dawn of bowling to its current standing, the sports highs and lows, the controversies, the feminist, social and moral intricates that bowling has brought into our consciousness, and mostly the long lasting and profound influence that women’s bowling has had on seemingly every aspect of our every day lives, this book covers it all. The overall purpose of this book is to record and celebrate a sport that has never been properly celebrated and studied before. The brave and heroic women who have not only created and cultivated this sport, but have turned it into a cultural tidal wave of change and progress, deserve nothing less.
