My Journey, Mariama was born on April, in a small village in Sierra Leone. Her early life was marked by hardship and resilience. At the age of two, she was given to her Aunt Bintu due to her mother's inability to care for her. Mariama's childhood was fraught with illness and attempted bush medicine remedies. She grew up in a poor village where survival depended on |
farming and foraging. At the age of nine, Mariama's underwent female genital mutilation, a traumatic experience that left lasting physical and emotional scars. During the Sierra Leone Civil War, she was captured by the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) rebels who brutally hacked off her left hand and attempted to sever her right hand with a pickaxe. Without medical care and only homemade bandages, she was forced to walk 20 miles to the nearest hospital to receive care, during which time there were many moments when she wanted to die due to the unbearable pain. Despite these horrific experiences, Mariama's determination to survive and succeed overcame the darkness |
surrounding her. She boldly announces that it was God who brought her through.
Impact Mariama's memoir will serve as an inspiration to many who face adversity. It will highlight the importance of education and resilience in overcoming life's challenges. The book aims to raise awareness about the issues faced by women in conflict zones and the power of perseverance. Mariama seeks to use her book as a testimony and is called to share her story, speaking in schools, churches, and events. Her powerful testimony will soften hearts and challenge minds in hopes that many will turn to Jesus and accept Him as Lord and Savior. Her story will also encourage and embolden the American Church to be strengthened by how she faced and overcame such hardships - knowing that if Mariama can, we all can rise as sons and daughters of the Most High King and work to spread His Kingdom wherever we go. Sharing the Gospel and Testimony Mariama enjoys speaking at women’s church events and schools about her faith and trials. This will be an intergral part of her ministry work using the book as a starting point to engage others about the love of Jesus Christ, who is with us even amid trials and tribulations.
