ARE YOU THAT GUTT GHOST GUY?

Howdy! My name is Enzo Garza and I'm a cartoonist who loves comic books. More specifically, those oddball and independent affairs. You know the ones, they're published by small press or simply created and sold by friends and strangers alike. I can't get enough of it and I love the thriving community of comic creators that exist today. Not only do I dig consuming comics, I also love making them.

In 2016 I created a mini comic called Gutt Ghost, it did far better than expected and was soon reprinted in the pages of Heavy Metal magazine. Good ol' Gutt has since had a run of single issue comics, a trade paperback and later this year, an offical 3 3/4" action figure! Not to mention a gut load of self published mini comics, dolls, and resin figures.

Here's the thing though, I've got so many other stories to tell outside of Gutt Ghost. I've made a couple of mini comics here and there but there's one story in particular I've been waiting to draw, that of a weirdo named The Kelp.

WHAT'S THIS KELP NONSENSE?

The Kelp is a 32 page comic book one-shot featuring the origins of a wandering weirdo known only as Kelp. He's a drifter, lost and confused by his present situation. Dressed as a snowman with accompanying cowboy belt, and equipped with a real space gun, Kelp struggles to navigate his reality and the creeping notion that it might all merely be a hallucination.

The Kelp one-shot deals with the weird and wacky but also addresses mental illness and depression. It's a mix of life that may seem familiar to many and it was important for me to tell this story. Kelp doesn't always figure things out but he means well... unfortunately good intentions sometimes lead to devastating outcomes. In a reality swimming with hallucinations and confusion, Kelp will try his best to maneuver through it all, helping where he can and desperately trying to keep his head above water.

This strange snowman has been with me since 2008 and I've wanted to do more with their story for over a decade now. There's a weird world that surrounds this one and I'm excited to finally share that comic with you all!


HERE TO HELP!

So why am I doing this one through Crowdundr? All my past works have been self published or through my publisher, what's different this time around?

The Kelp is a story about pushing through the odds and embraces the necessity of disillusion. Simply put, it's about overcoming the impossible. Is making comics impossible? No, but sometimes it feels like it can be. With this campaign, I'm working to ensure this one-shot can be made with no financial struggles- that's where you come in. With your help, we can make this comic together and that means offering up some sweet rewards and sharing the credit with you all!

With the money raised in this campaign I'll be able to not only make the first Kelp comic with your help, I will also be able to make sure The Kelp stays in print for all to enjoy.

So what's going down with the rewards? Something I've always enjoyed while self publishing is making a plethora of oddball things to accompany my comics. From dolls and figures, to shirts, stickers, and paper figure comics, there's something exciting about creating more outside the world of a comic book. That's where the rewards kick in!
