Ricochet and the Fangz is a fun, fast-paced story about The Harpies, a badass team of tight knit roller derby chicks. Our story primarily revolves around Jasmine “Ricochet” Navarro and her struggle with becoming the new head jammer on her team. When their star jammer, Christina “Captain Crush” North, is kidnapped and transformed into a creature of the night, The Harpies must rise to the occasion if they are to defeat an onslaught of crazy, powerful, underground roller derby teams! 

The story is set in 2005, with all the fashion and lingo of that era in tact. Imagine Avril Lavigne blaring in your mom's 2003 Kia Sorento. For fans of ensemble casts with relatable friendships, this book is for you. Not only is it full of full tilt roller derby mayhem, but we're trying to bring a level of realism when it comes to the struggles these girls deal with outside of the rink. Juggling day jobs, while pursuing their hobbies is a constant struggle in the fight to be the best roller derby team in town. 

This campaign goal is raise enough money to print the first issue, which will be 22 pages or so (Could be more, won't be less). Also, the campaign money will go towards shipping and printing the various rewards and hopefully there will be enough profit to pay Emily for her hard work drawing the book. The entirety of the story is imagined as a 5 part story, so hopefully success will mean more issues!

Emily Alvarez is an amazing storyteller and artist who has done beautiful murals all across Kansas City and now aims to make an artistic splash across comics! Her creative voice through art is sorely needed in comics today. 

Jake Smith has successfully funded eight issues of his comics “This Off Beat Town” and “Blood Force Trauma” and his Dark Horse book “Into Radness” is coming out summer 2022. He has written his own books and the past and sought out Emily specifically to bring his Roller Derby Vampire idea to life.
