Lantern Light Films is producing two urgent, real time Canadian documentaries that cannot wait for funding cycles or institutional timelines. These stories are unfolding now, and we are inside them with cameras rolling.

Filming for our feature documentary Moment of Truth is underway. This film documents the growing movement and the call for a National Apology from the Canadian government for its role in Canada’s shameful post war adoption practices, which separated more than 350,000 mothers from their newborns. We are filming in real time as survivors rise up and allies join the call for a National Apology.

Filming for our second real time feature documentary, Three Steps Back, has begun. This film follows the frontline harm reduction community as they navigate the losses, reversals, and political setbacks unfolding right now across Canada. It documents the closures, the criminalization, the grief, and the erasure happening in real time — and the people who continue to fight for dignity, safety, and truth. Three Steps Back includes voices from the frontline and others whose lives and work have been shaped by this crisis.

These films are being made from the inside. I am a mother who has lived two forms of child loss — the forced adoption of my first child at fifteen, and the death of my adult son Ryan to the toxic drug crisis. I have spent years in the trenches as a frontline harm reduction worker, witnessing system failures that harmed people I loved and communities I served. I am the Founder of Canadians for a National Apology, and the Co Founder and Director of Ryan’s Hope, a frontline organization whose work has been recognized with national awards.

I bring a triple perspective to these films: grieving parent, frontline worker, and national advocate. This combination places me in a rare position to document these stories with depth, trust, and lived‑experience insight that cannot be replicated from the outside.

Along the way, I have built relationships with people whose voices are essential to these histories — other parents, those fighting for their own survival, those working in the trenches, and those in positions of power. Their stories, courage, and truth are at the heart of these films.
