WHY ARE WE MAKING IT?
All Night Long is a companion piece to our previous short film Goodnight. Goodnight premiered at Sundance 2025 and enjoyed an incredible festival run. Both films are proofs of concept for the feature version of Goodnight, currently in development.
First and foremost, this is a movie about paid carework, work largely done by women. We all want, and need, to be taken care of. In the scope of our lives, the form of this need changes... and doesn't. We need to be held, touched, disciplined, and seen. But when intimacy and care aren't freely available, what do we do? Hire someone, whether it's through seekingarrangements.com or care.com.
But when care and affection are given in exchange for money, where is the line between real and fake? The performance of connection can BE the connection, and it can be the reminder of the pain of its absence. It’s both .
--
Just like Goodnight, All Night Long is an exploration of the complications, and divine possibility, of paid caretaking. As two long-time babysitters, we understand there is a real sanctity to giving our intimate, human selves to people who truly need it. The people who do this kind of work—in the feminized, cash-based, devalued, sometimes illegal economy of care–are almost never lovingly or thoughtfully represented in film.
We hope this film speaks to careworkers of all kinds, paid and unpaid, and the complications of the kind of close, emotional labor we do.
WHO ARE WE?
We are Annie Fox and Isabel Pask, filmmaking partners, and former cast-mates of the McCarter Theatre Center's 2022 production of The Wolves! Our work together explores intimacy, performance, and labor through a feminine and queer lens. Together we co-wrote the short film Goodnight (World Premiere Sundance Film Festival), co-directed the short film Haus (currently entering the festival circuit), and are in the midst of co-writing two feature-length films, one of which is in development with Fit Via Vi Films.
