Jessica Nitzel hasn't added a story.

Risen Industries, Inc. was not born out of theory, business planning, or opportunity—it was born out of a moment that felt almost impossible to explain. A moment that stitched together past mistakes, second chances, and a clear calling.

Years ago, during a period of incarceration, I participated in a Scared Straight program—an initiative designed to deter at-risk youth from following paths that lead to prison. Many people see those programs as one-day events, a brief scare tactic. But for me, it became something much deeper.

During one of those visits, I met a young boy. He wasn’t just another face in a group—he stood out. There was something in his eyes: a mix of fear, curiosity, and a quiet plea for guidance. We connected. Not in a dramatic or life-changing way at first—but enough to start a conversation.

After that day, we began writing letters.

For months, we went back and forth. Those letters became more than words on paper—they became a lifeline. He shared pieces of his world: instability, exposure to things no child should have to navigate, and the weight of growing up too fast. I shared my reality, my mistakes, and the truth about where those roads lead. It wasn’t mentorship in a formal sense—but it was real.

Then life shifted.

I was transferred to another facility, and like so many connections formed in difficult circumstances, contact was lost. No closure. No final letter. Just silence.

Years passed.

Life after incarceration came with its own challenges—rebuilding, redefining purpose, trying to move forward while carrying the past. The memory of that young boy never fully left, but like many things, it became something tucked away in the back of my mind.

Until one day, everything came full circle.

I was walking into a gas station, just another ordinary moment. As I stepped inside, two police officers walked in behind me. They tapped me on the shoulder.

I turned around—and there he was.

That same boy.

No longer a child, but now a man in uniform.

What stood in front of me wasn’t just a coincidence—it was a living, breathing reminder of impact. Of what connection, guidance, and even small moments of honesty can do in someone’s life. That moment didn’t just surprise me—it changed me.

It planted something permanent.

From that day forward, the vision for Risen Industries, Inc. became clear.

The Mission

Risen Industries, Inc. is dedicated to reaching children who are growing up in environments that place them at risk—homes affected by abuse, addiction, neglect, and systemic poverty. These are children who often don’t have consistent role models, safe spaces, or opportunities to see beyond their current circumstances.

The goal is simple, but powerful:
To interrupt cycles before they become life sentences.

Through mentorship, outreach, and real-life connection, Risen Industries aims to provide what many of these children are missing:

  • Stability

  • Encouragement

  • Honest guidance

  • Exposure to different possibilities

Not through empty promises—but through lived experience and consistent presence.

Because sometimes, all it takes is one person showing up.

Why This Matters

Many nonprofit initiatives focus on intervention after damage has already been done. Risen Industries is rooted in prevention—reaching children while they are still forming their identities, still deciding which direction their lives will take.

This work is personal.

It comes from understanding both sides:

  • What it means to grow up surrounded by negative influences

  • And what it means to face the consequences of following that path

It also comes from witnessing transformation—not just in my own life, but in that young boy who once needed guidance and later became someone who provides it.

The Current Need

Risen Industries, Inc. is at a critical starting point.

To become officially recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, a remaining $275 is needed to complete the filing process. This designation is essential—it allows the organization to:

  • Operate legally as a nonprofit

  • Receive tax-deductible donations

  • Apply for grants and larger funding opportunities

  • Build credibility with partners and communities

In addition to this, Risen Industries is actively seeking sponsorships and early supporters who believe in investing in prevention, transformation, and community restoration.

The Vision Moving Forward

With proper funding and sponsorship, Risen Industries plans to:

  • Partner with schools, juvenile programs, and community centers

  • Develop mentorship programs rooted in real-life experience

  • Create safe spaces for youth to talk, learn, and grow

  • Provide consistent outreach to high-risk neighborhoods

  • Build long-term relationships—not just one-time interventions

This is not about charity—it’s about change.

A Full-Circle Purpose

What started in a prison through a simple letter became a full-circle moment that now fuels a mission.

Risen Industries, Inc. stands as proof that:

  • People can change

  • Seeds planted in difficult places can grow

  • And even the smallest connection can alter the course of a life

Now, the goal is to multiply that impact—one child, one conversation, one opportunity at a time.

Call to Action

Right now, the opportunity is immediate and tangible.

With just $275, Risen Industries, Inc. can take its first official step toward becoming a fully recognized nonprofit organization.

Beyond that, partnerships and sponsorships will allow this mission to grow, reach more children, and create lasting change in communities that need it most.

Because somewhere right now, there is another child—just like that young boy once was—waiting for someone to show them a different path.
