WHAT IS SOLITAIRE SCRIBE?

It's a system-neutral solo journaling oracle that works alongside any TTRPG system—D&D, Pathfinder, Daggerheart, Call of Cthulhu, Blades in the Dark, or your favorite indie game. Using nothing more than a standard deck of playing cards (the "Oracle") and a journal, you'll explore the untold chapters of your character's life: their relationships, their struggles, their quiet victories, and their personal growth.

HOW IT WORKS♣️

1. EXPAND YOUR CHARACTER
Build your protagonist using any TTRPG system. Define their core goals (at least one per suit), create an address book of 12 side characters (one per face card), and establish their daily routine.

2. DRAW YOUR DAILY SPREAD
Shuffle your deck and draw 8 cards in a 2×4 grid. The top row shows events that happen (morning, midday, evening, and one off-screen). The bottom row provides context and modifiers.

3. RESOLVE & JOURNAL
Face challenges using your chosen system's mechanics. Number cards (2-10) present skill checks at varying difficulties. Face cards trigger interactions with specific NPCs. Write out what happens in your journal!

4. TRACK YOUR PROGRESS
Successes advance your goals (1-4 steps based on difficulty). Relationships deepen or fracture based on your interactions. Watch your story unfold organically.

Solitaire Scribe is created by Level Zero. We're focused on creating systems that encourage creativity, personal expression, and meaningful storytelling.

With Solitaire Scribe, we wanted to solve a problem every TTRPG player faces: the gap between the grand adventures we share with our party and the personal stories our characters experience in the time between adventures.

This system bridges that gap, giving every character the personal depth we oftentimes never get to explore!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: How long does a game session take?
A: As long as you want! A single "day" can take anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours depending on how detailed you want your journal entries to be.

Q: Can I play this alongside my regular campaign?
A: Absolutely! That's one of the best ways to use it. Play out downtime between sessions, explore character moments that didn't fit into the group narrative, or develop backstory elements.

Q: What if I'm not a writer?
A: No problem! Your journal entries can be as simple as bullet points or as elaborate as prose. The system works either way. This is for you, not publication.

Q: Do I need physical materials?
A: Not at all! You can use Google Docs for journaling, online dice rollers, and a digital card deck. Everything can be played entirely online if you prefer.

Q: How and when will I receive my PDF?
A: Digital rewards will be delivered in May 2026, after we complete the final artwork and layout (30-60 days after the campaign ends). You'll receive a unique Itch.io download link which will add the game to your Itch.io library. You'll also be able to redownload the game any time updates are made or features are added!

Q: Can I print this at home?
A: Yes! The PDF is designed to be printable. You can print it at home or take it to a print shop for a more professional finish.
