Welcome to our funding page! We would love your support to help get our short film, Love Potion, made.

Love Potion was written by Ceara Carney while partaking in The GALPAL Collective writers' group. The script was shortlisted to the top 15 out of hundreds of applications for the NTA First Credit Short Film Scheme but unfortunately didn't get over the line with funding, so now we're asking the wider collective to help. Whatever you can spare to cover our basic costs and ideally get some sort of a wage into the pockets of the cast and crew involved, will be HUGELY appreciated. 

Let's start with the  why of the project, with a word from Ceara:

“As the beauty and cosmetic industry shows no signs of slowing down and the people who use their products and services get younger and younger, there is no better time to make a movie like Love Potion . I am very lucky to have a mother that instilled self confidence in me via reassurrance, and never belittling her appearance while I was in earshot. The seeds of insecurities I do have today were sewn by magazines, social media, or flippant comments made by others. The roots of those insecurities run nowhere near as deep as they do in the women around me, thanks to my mam’s conditioning. I repeat to my friends the same things my mam said to me: “ You can do anything you put your mind to.”, “You are beautiful!” ...but it doesn't stick. The comments slide off a repellent coating and anyone who dares to truly love or accept themselves is deemed “full of herself” or, god forbid, to have notions.

To add fuel to the insecure fire, the few women-led films I and my peers grew up with too often revolved around the ‘get the guy!’ mission. Our worth was only to be realised through the validation of a man. Thus the idea for Love Potion (and Steve) was born!”

Meet the characters:

This will be Castán Productions first film. CP was founded by Ceara Carney who is an actor and writer from Castán Close in Ballywilliam, Wexford. She'll be working with the extremely talented Hannah Bloom as DOP. Here's an example of Hannah's work: 

Our producer is Alannah Jennings, who will also be composing the soundtrack for the film while Nicole Cowan brings Production Coordinator experience from Animo TV and Assistant Producer experience from BiggerStage to the set as well.

This 4 day shoot will take place in April 2026, in Dublin, Ireland. We'll be hiring a local cast and crew, making sure to create a safe (and enjoyable!) working set. Your help to support this film financially will mean less stress for the artsists involved, a better qulaity finished product that isn't rushed, and more festival submissions so that Carla's story can be shared with audiences all over the world.
