After his mysterious fall from grace, an exiled angel goes to extremes to ensure his survival in the underworld where demons hold court and delight in the ruination of beings just like him. The freshly plucked rosefinch binds himself, body and soul, to one of the oldest demons there is: the Pale Prince of Night. THE NIGHT PRINCE & THE ROSEFINCH is the first volume of a three volume tale about corruption, family, bodies, and the ways in which pleasure controls and heals us.

This story started as stress relief and morphed into a passion project exploring mythology and corruption, and of course, queer sex. No two people will tell the same kind of story in the same exact way. There are countless creation myths, and countless queer stories of "demons" and "angels". This is my story about the different things we call 'sin', and I plan to make the most wonderfully layered and sensual book that I can. 

Things have only gotten harder for adult artists, and especially marginalized artists. I want to be able to make more of my work available in physical form where it cannot be deleted from your library, where it can be touched and held and admired alongside you.

The Team

THE WRITER & ORGANIZER: Roo started FRICTION PRESS four years ago when he decided it was time to return to what he loved best: messy, unafraid original fiction. He writes all manner of queer trans erotica which can be found at his store here! You probably know him best from his previous crowdfundr for his t4t eroguro novel, KNIVES IN YOUR EYES, or maybe for his R18 visual novel about a dystopian city that settles all their disputes with street racing, FAKE RACING GAME. He is incredibly passionate about independently produced BL and wants to continue creating the best possible books for you!

THE COVER ARTIST: I'm so unbelievably excited to have SJ Miller on to make the cover for NIGHT PRINCE (and if we're lucky, some interior illustrations as well)! SJ is an incredible artist known for their series MAGE AND THE ENDLESS UNKNOWN, as well as their gorgeous bodyhorror comics including TO HELL, an unsettling story about monks fondling each other's divine wounds. SJ has an eye for the malleable form of the human body, so a shapeshifting demon and his scarred bird are a perfect fit for them.

THE SUPPORT ARTISTS: KMO is coming on board to help supplement with even more interior illustrations to compliment SJ's work! You can admire their wonderful art over here! If we can hit our first stretch goal, Danika will be back on to provide connective design tissue with flourishes on scene breaks, page numbers, glossary icons, and other corners of the book! Anyone who supported the KNIVES IN YOUR EYES crowdfundr will recognize her wonderful work from that book. Beleghir is helping to polish the text with some fine-tune line edits. And last but not least, Subvertebra is setting our book up for success with formatting both physically and digitally!

The Meat & Potatoes

We'll be printing 5.5 x 8.5 inch books again. This time around, I'll be using IngramSpark as the printer. They're old standbys for self-published works, and I have no concerns working with them. I've even recalibrated my approach to make sure that I don't encounter any unexpected issues. The book itself has already been written (technically, the first two books have been written, but this print run is only for the first volume).

The only actual unknown with this project is whether we'll get enough book orders! Please help spread the word about our campaign and encourage all your cool friends to get a luscious, independent BL from a disabled trans creator who could really use your support! The fracturing of social media and unrelenting pressure on queer adult artists continues to pose a challenge to a lot of creators trying to find our audience, so I NEED YOUR HELP TO SPREAD THE WORD! 

The money you give us will be going straight to printing costs, paying people involved in the book's creation, and shipping these books out to all of you! While NIGHT PRINCE is a significantly shorter book by word count as compared to KNIVES IN YOUR EYES, I also plan to put more art pieces into NIGHT PRINCE so that it comes out as dense and juicy as it deserves. Readers will know that this book draws on many types of mythology and fairy tale and folklore, and it is my hope that we can capture as much of that atmosphere, playfulness, and grandeur as we can through both art and prose (and a really excellent team behind me).

I've also found a way to streamline international shipping (thank you pirateship), which will both reduce costs for all international readers, and help me retain my sanity. With any luck, we'll have books to ship within 6 months of the funding date like we did last time! Every single reward tier will come with a PDF and EPUB of the finished book with all the interior art in place, and any of the physical reward tiers will come with a themed bookmark made by another queer creator, Asher.

The first stretch goal represents more money for the team to go ham and put even more divine work into the book! What that really means: Danika will be able to add interior design flourishes around things like page numbers, scene breaks, and the glossaries at the back of the book! In addition to that, it will also allow for SJ & KMO to add interior illustrations to go along with the text!! Help us make this story even more tempting than it already is! SECOND STRETCH: $5000: A Dance In His Honor - GOAL UNLOCKED!!!!!!!!

The second stretch goal means every single reward-tier backer will be given digital copies of the newly edited sequel to THE NIGHT PRINCE & THE ROSEFINCH! So if you pledged to any reward tier, that's you! Book two, THE SILENT GOD & THE BURNING ANGEL, is currently undergoing edits by Beleghir, and assuming we reach our goal, Subvertebra will be able to format it properly to release to backers (at least 6 months prior to its public release). WE DID IT, THANK YOU!! The sequel needs to undergo some edits, but every reward tier backer will get the polished text and formatting as soon as it’s ready! There isn’t art to go with it just yet, but this will provide a useful template for future printing purposes as well! Two birds, one stretch.

THIRD STRETCH: $6000: A Feast In His Honor (feat. Orcamode!) — GOAL UNLOCKED!!!!!!!

The third stretch goal means A BRAND NEW NIGHT PRINCE & ROSEFINCH ONE-SHOT! A scene set between the first and second volumes with prose by Roo, and art by the inimitable Orcamode, erotic comics artist and BL bon vivant! Orca and I have been wanting to collaborate on a Night Prince short for over a year now, and with your help, we can finally make this a reality! We are so excited to bring you a new (definitely very nsfw) decadence straight from the underworld. We did it, thank you!! Orca and I have begun discussing a plan to release a nsfw one-shot for anyone to enjoy as thanks for everyone’s support of this campaign!!

FOURTH STRETCH: $8000: Blessings From Above

The fourth stretch goal will result in me commissioning a nsfw piece of characters from the book! All backers will get the chance to suggest an artist, as well as the theme of the piece, via google form so we can all be part of the process! I will look over all your lovely ideas, compile options, and then find a willing artist to pay to bring it to life! 

LAST STRETCH: $10,000: He Rests

The last stretch goal, which I fully do not expect us to make, will result in me finally getting to take a break. I am a disabled creator that has been struggling to continue creating independent niche queer art for the last several years, and I am very tired. There are no real days off when you deal with lifelong chronic illness, and especially as a person who sits in the crosshairs of many different aspects of marginalization, to say it's been exhausting to create such meaningful and personally important art that is inherently difficult to host on any platform while consistently making less than minimum wage income would be an understatement. If by some miracle this crowdfundr makes it to 10,000 dollars, I'm going to schedule myself and my senior dog a long rest.
