Friends ~
Please help me release Powerline into the world!
Hi, I’m Jennifer Foster, a Toronto-based singer-songwriter. I’m reaching out with something very close to my heart. I’m in the final stages of finishing my new album, and I’m asking for your support to help send it on its way.
Powerline is a collection of ten original, acoustic guitar-driven folk-pop songs, vibrant, layered, and uniquely arranged. I’m especially thrilled that it includes a co-write with the incredible Ron Sexsmith.
(You can hear some of the music in the video)
The Story Behind the Album
These songs are a love letter to the place I grew up - a farm in rural New Brunswick in a beautiful river valley, where the trees, creatures, colours, and landscapes were like characters in my life. (This campaign cover image is of me writing songs up at the barn.)
When my dad began losing his memory to dementia my parents had to leave. The farm held both beauty and baggage, and I poured all the feelings - love, grief, longing, joy - into these songs. This album is about the present becoming the past: the farm, my dad as I knew him, and a chapter of my life. And about navigating love and connection back in the city.
They say losing someone to dementia is a long goodbye. In many ways, this album is mine.
Recording Powerline has been an unexpectedly long, rich journey. I started during the pandemic, but had to take a long pause to recover from a concussion. As it turned out, that experience gave me something I didn’t know I needed: a deeper connection to myself and to my life’s purpose. I felt so much joy and gratitude coming back to the record, and I poured all of it into the music. From start to finish, this album has been my teacher, and helped me discover a deeper sense of my own strength.
Bringing Powerline to Life
With help from the Canada Council for the Arts,
I’ve completed the recording. Now I’m raising $8,000
to finish the final steps:
• Album photography, artwork, and layout
• Manufacturing vinyl and CDs
I’m thrilled to be working with Edward Gajdel,
one of Canada’s most renowned portrait photographers (Leonard Cohen,
Oscar Peterson). He loves the album and is creating the cover.
The goal is to release Powerline in February
2026 — and I’ll share updates with you all along the way.

Advance Praise
“Listening to Powerline is a jaw-dropping experience
— sonically adventurous and meticulously layered, yet alive and
fresh.” – Mike Evin
“Powerline is a wonderful collection of songs, full of sweet melodies and intimate lyrics, all sung in a voice that is lovely and unpretentious.” – Ron Sexsmith
About Me
I’ve co-produced a solo record with JUNO-winner Michael Phillip Wojewoda (Barenaked Ladies), recorded with David Garza, Paul Myers, and Moe Berg (of The Pursuit of Happiness, a band I toured and recorded with), collaborated with Carole Pope, Melanie Doane, Lori Cullen, the Rheostatics, and Kevin Hearn. You may have even heard me as a “Jazzagal” on Schitt’s Creek!
Thank you for helping me finish this album - and for
believing in independent music.
I can’t wait for you to hear Powerline.
xoxo Jennifer
