Most journals ask what you accomplished. This one asks who you are becoming.
The Windless Lamp is being built as a 108-night introspection journal for yogis and serious meditators.
It is not a productivity planner. It is a quiet place to review meditation, conduct, habits and inner direction — without excusing yourself and without attacking yourself.
A nightly practice, not a productivity system
Each evening is intended to contain:
- a brief teaching or reflection, clearly labeled;
- one question to take to bed;
- space to write by hand;
- one small quality or action to carry into tomorrow.
The practice is simple: observe without judgment, recognize the pattern, choose the opposite quality, and act concretely.
Questions begin with the things that are easiest to avoid: Was my meditation concentrated? Was my attitude right? Which habit repeated itself? What do I want to strengthen tomorrow?
The aim is not to fill pages. It is to see clearly enough to choose differently.
Why 108 nights
Insight rarely becomes character in a weekend. Repetition matters.
Across 108 nights, the journal will return to meditation, peace, anger, attention, relationships, courage, gratitude, recurring habits, purpose and the person we are slowly becoming.
The number 108 belongs deeply to the contemplative traditions of India. Here, it also creates a finite practice: long enough to reveal a pattern, and contained enough to complete.
What we are making
The intended first edition is a premium clothbound hardback designed to be kept after the 108-night practice is complete. Current design studies explore midnight blue and natural ivory cloth, a small gold lamp mark, tactile writing paper, lay-flat binding and two ribbon markers.
The images shown here are design concepts, not photographs of a finished product. Final materials, binding, dimensions and colors will be decided through physical prototypes and print tests.
What already exists
The first Seven Nights sampler has been designed and is available free at thewindlesslamp.com. It tests the rhythm of the experience: read, look back, write, begin again.
The wider 108-night editorial sequence is now being developed and tested through nightly content. Every entry distinguishes direct quotation, paraphrase, original reflection and practice. If a source cannot be traced, it does not belong in the journal.
What your contribution funds
- research, source-checking and editorial development;
- the complete architecture of the 108-night practice;
- print-ready interior and cover design;
- physical prototypes and test printing;
- paper, binding and supplier evaluation;
- photography and preparation of the first physical edition.
What a contribution means
At this stage, contributions support development. They are not pre-orders for a finished journal, and no finished journal is being promised for a contribution unless a specific reward says so.
Supporters will be able to follow the making: design decisions, prototypes, print tests and what changes as the journal becomes real.
Independent, careful, traceable
The Windless Lamp is an independent project. It is not affiliated with any organization, ashram or society, and it does not reproduce practices reserved for initiation.
The project draws from the tradition of spiritual self-examination found in the writings of Paramahansa Yogananda and other teachers of yoga, while keeping sources and editorial interpretation visibly separate.
