What’s The Kentucky Fried Chronicles All About?
The Kentucky Fried Chronicles is a graphic novel set in the fictional Amburgey, Kentucky. It’s a gritty superhero tale packed with vibrant colors and dynamic action, following two friends turned vigilantes. Marvin Jenkins, The Bluegrass Chronic, is a rugged technician who gains time manipulation, super strength, and flight, while Blake Matthews, Dr. Ganja, is a survivalist with plant-control powers—both powered by a cannabis-derived energy called the Chronic Force. After losing high school friends Tommy Hargis and Ellie Mae Carter, and coworkers at AVA Global (like Jimmy Ray and Nate) to overdoses, they use a strain called Kentucky Fried Chronic to fight the opioid crisis. They create Bluegrass Dream for a planned dispensary to help addicts recover, battling gangs empowered by the Dope Veil—a purple-black mist tied to the opioid trade—and its embodiment, Jian "Veil" Morales, a Chinese-Mexican PharmaCore CEO with powers from opioids, meth, and cocaine.
The plot escalates as Marvin discovers timeline-jumping, visiting an alternate 2025 where cannabis prohibition never happened—Amburgey thrives with hemp industries and no opioid crisis. After defeating gang leader Dwayne “Reaper” Maddox, they face Jian, who escapes, revealing a larger threat. In the end, they start rebuilding with Bluegrass Dream, using timeline lessons, while Jian’s Dope Veil looms.
