THE PROJECT 

Everybody knows the story of Louis Armstrong's early life in the boys home.  However, almost no one knows the amazing backstory of his life in the 'Colored Waif's Home' . The goal of this campaign is to help lay the ground work leading to a Louis Armstrong prequel movie.

THE BACK STORY 

The principals in this amazing story are my wife's grandparents, the late Captain Joseph and Manuella Duplessis Jones. Together, they formed and administrated the Colored Waif's Home home in New Orleans which was formerly known as the Jones' home.

Captain Jones was a Buffalo Soldier and veteran of the Spanish-American War who served under General Douglas McArthur's father, Arthur McArthur. Manuella Duplessis was a New Orleans socialite and social worker. Around 1904 Joseph and Manuella founded the Colored Waif's Home. Its mission was to circumvent young black boys going into Orleans Parish Jail with adult criminals.

Of the doozens of movies made about the life and times of Louis Armstrong, not one film mention the Captain and Manuella Jones.  Without their having created the Colored Waif's Home,  Louis Armstrong and others famous musicians such as Champ Dupree would not have emerged.  Jazz as we know it would sound drastically different, 

CAMPAIGN OBJECTIVE

The purpose of this campaign is to be able to afford a professional writer to create a compelling pitch leading to the production and filming of a Louis Armstrong prequel movie.
