Based on the Book
Fatal Affair in Convict Canyon by Jim S. Reed, Death In
Convict Canyon tells the amazing true story of
the first train robbery in the west which was
followed up with the largest US prison break ever at
that time. It taps into the genre’s resurgence while addressing
contemporary themes of justice and the gray area of right and wrong.
Its lean budget ensures high production value, leveraging stunning
natural locations (many at or near where the events actually occurred)
and a tightly woven narrative.
We're just getting started in the preproduction process and will use these funds to get this project off the ground! This includes setting up the website and LLC, location scouting and creating storyboards for the business plan, among other important tasks!
Thanks in advance for your support.
LOGLINE ~ A train robbery and subsequent prison break causes a preacher-turned-criminal to grapple with his faith as he and his gang are hunted down by a determined sheriff and ruthless vigilantes.

An Original Merton Clivette gouache on paper 22" x 28"
Born on the frontier and trained in Wild Bill’s travelling Wild West show, Clivette was equal parts acrobat, magician and artist—a real-life embodiment of the restless spirit that drives Death in Convict Canyon. Before settling in New York to become a pioneering American Expressionist, he criss-crossed the world on vaudeville circuits, sketching miners, drifters and showgirls whose rough-hewn stories echo the moral gray-zones of our film.
Critics of the 1920s linked his loose, one-stroke brushwork to the Ashcan School and saw in his whirling paint the same kinetic energy he once unleashed on stage. Like our characters—ordinary people forced into extraordinary choices—
Clivette never stayed inside a single role: entertainer, adventurer, painter, rebel. Showcasing his work alongside our production reminds audiences that the West was not just guns and grit but also bold creativity and ceaseless reinvention—the very forces powering the tale of the first train robbery and the prison break that followed.
For those who are interested in this Reward we will offer you the painting from a group of paintings so that you end up with the perfect piece of art for your wall or den.
We will ship this wonderful painting to you within the Continental US
