Whoo hoo...I'm so siked to be here. Why? Well I'm a creative and I been writing all day BIG BONUS to me...doing what I love(one of the things).
I am known artistically as Nakita Blacc. Creative writing is one my beloved art forms however I have several.
Let's begin with my 1st creative love..Singing. I have been singing since a little girl. Reciting hymns from The Song Book of The Kingdom Hall under the Jehovah Witness religion. Aha my humble beginnings...they started in Brooklyn NY ironically in Marcy Projects. However although I do proclaim to the 2nd billionaire from there cause we'll Jay-Z was the 1st and no I never met him, I am still striving to hit the thousands ire currently.
At 6 months old I was dropped off to my late great aunt Mamie who was elderly yet had a heart of gold and a fist of steel. She was my mama for the 1st decade and my normal although different due to her religious beliefs were consistent.
Now at 41 I been striving for that type stability since then...I think I finally have it just got affordable housing whoo hoo.
Music took a back burner for a bit as life shook me up with trauma, tragedy, abuse and neglect. As a creative that was all fuel to my fire. My visual art was discovered in elementary school and it was astonishing to viewers however boring to me. I didn't know any artist, I was from the hood. How could I make a living with art? Little did I know then and much I discovered when I actually went into an art gallery about 4 years ago.
Writing became my thing in Junior high school and I have been Journaling ever since. As an advent RL Stine Goosebumps reader I also fell in love with books.
Again life was giving me gas. Art was my therapy, my way to escape the madness. I returned to Music in my late 20s after my youngest child passed away from an Undiagnosed disease and I was divorced battling custody of my living child in court and basically all alone. When I sang it was initially to release the screams inside of me in an orderly way. Soon however after the claps and admiration it's became a regular thing for me and I started seeing how amazing it was.
I won the custody case eventually then struggled with housing for the next decade as a single mom. Whenever I could go sing I did. I started at karaoke and frequented a spot called Frank's Lounge every Wednesday , my nickname was SUPA.
I eventually ventured to open mics with live bands nervous since my lack of formal training made me insecure with pros. However the pros are the ones who nudged me to keep going and came after the applause to inspire me further. Now sometimes my nerves jumped out in front of my voice and the crowd gave me a courtesy quick clap..lol however I wouldn't change my music start for anything.
One time I got a really good vocal coach in Washington Heights but my finances didn't allow me to continue.
I discovered Blick in 2019 and vowed to get myself an easel and paint when I could afford it. I also signed up with a performance artist platform called Afton and actually sold tickets and was paid to sing a few times. I was excited for my creative career.
Then the world closed. Yup you guessed it the pandemic. It's funny how things can change so quickly and then go back like nothing happened but double or perhaps triple inflation.
For an artist that was struggling before the pandemic the hit was not only financial it was discouraging. I thought I was already late being in my late 30s and with all the inconsistencies towards my creative career on my part with me pouring my energy into being a good mother.
Then I hit 40 last year and someone from ticktok paid to fly me to DC to perform. I knew I had something really special to share. I just had no clue how to fund it myself and that person was not a rich executive she was a mom like me and she was working 3 jobs to stay afloat while building her content creation online. She also is an author by the way but yall get the point.
I am here for funding. I did finally get my easel and paint and canvases. I created several amazing paintings. I did record and release one single called Cut Me Loose and rebranded from SUPA to Nakita Blacc.
I just found a writing co-lab which I haven't even contacted yet cause I just feel it ain't free.
My last job ended abruptly November 28 2023 after I was in a motor vehicle accident and was injured.
So I need to get my gifts out to the world. I am very grateful yet money is a concern of mines. I created a podcast show with no experience no nothing but me needing a safe space to vent and a platform called Anchor that sold to Spotify last year. The industry just whoosh past this tortoise and again I felt like sheesh I need more than ME to be successful in my creative career yet I must always be ME.
Which is why here on this platform I feel free. Art to me is more then therapeutic now it's freedom. I know you feel the same as a lover of art too. Perhaps you have preferences and that's normal and fine...I kinda love it all.
So now you know a bit about me. I am going to share my links that also showcase my creativity and give the opportunity to support me in the best way for YOU.
Thank you for your time.
I can't wait to publish my 1st book.
