A Burning Man Honorarium Project 2022
in cooperation with the Coalition for Healthy Nevada Lands.
We need your help getting this project off the ground and into the desert!
A group effort
After his successful art installation "Wings of Glory", a
giant flying, moving fiery pegasus towering over Burning Man 2019,
Adrian Landon has partnered with Rebekah Stetson to invite a group of
artists from various backgrounds to join them in a new project.
Through an open call, artists were invited to propose a life
size, outdoor public horse sculpture, on the subject of the plight
of ecosystems and how wild horses are being impacted. Many amazing
designs were submitted, from which eighteen have been selected to be
brought to the playa as a herd!
The Artworks
Each of these life-size horse sculptures will be made by an individual artist or group of artists, in their own artistic aesthetic. Together, these eighteen life-size horse sculptures will form a herd. Free-standing, built to withstand permanent outdoor exposure, severe weather, and safe and structurally sound enough to be climbed on while on public display.
Wild Horses in the American West
The purpose of this exhibit is to raise awareness and to further education on the impacts and solutions to the overpopulation of wild horses in the American West. As drought continues and wildfires rob the land of precious, life sustaining vegetation, wild horse populations continue to grow leaving them susceptible and in need of humane help! Horses, other herbivores and predators, local plant life and water need to be brought into balance in a thoughtful way. This requires education and awareness of the issue first and foremost. Where to enjoy the Wild Herd
The exhibit will make its debut at Burning Man 2022 (August 28th through September 5th ), with all sculptures thereafter having the potential to be installed throughout the West. What will the funds be used for?
This project has received a production honorarium from the Burning Man Organization, which has allowed ten of our eighteen projects to receive a grant of $2000.00. The other eight projects are currently being self funded and we need your support! We need additional funds for:
- Materials and Supplies including metal, and solar powered lighting for this giant herd!
- Transportation of the sculptures to and from Black Rock Desert
- Fun things for Burning Man like crew t-shirts and wild horse stickers to pass out
- Cleaning and storage once the sculptures come home from Black Rock Desert
- Transportation of the sculptures to their next site of installation
- Further promotion of the project and issue after the initial exhibition
- Any cost not directly related to production of the artworks
