More than thirty years ago, I backpacked through Central America.

I thought I was going on a trip.

I didn't realize I was beginning a journey that would continue shaping my life decades later.

Since then, I've travelled to many parts of the world, worked in the travel industry, taught for many years, and continued studying the forces that shape our world and our understanding of it.

One question kept returning:

Why do some journeys change us while others simply take us somewhere?

That question became Apathy to Love.

It's about what can happen to us when we do.

At the heart of the book are three parts of the journey:
