THE STORY
What survives to be carried forward… and how do we remember?
AMETHYST BLOODLINE began with that question.
Eric Willingham was raised by Black Southern women whose stories were rarely written down, yet always remembered — in land, in song, in gesture, in silence.
As he traced his own creative path, he realized he wasn’t building something new. He was continuing something sacred.
This 18-minute short film weaves original music, poetic narration, family oral histories, and research into Black-owned land in Alabama into a cinematic meditation on matriarchal memory, generational wealth, and ancestral legacy.
At its center is an amethyst ring passed down from his great-grandmother, Jimmie Nell Naugher — a living archive of grief, endurance, property, artistry, and vision — linking past, present, and future.
Funding Progress: The Final Push
Thanks to our first 11 contributors, we’ve already secured our editor.
We are now raising the final $275 to cover:
- Final sound engineering to ensure the film is theater-ready
- Technical needs for our live, participatory screening
- A community reception for the April 25, 2026 premiere in Brooklyn, NY
