Who’s Gonna Take Care of Me? – A Spiritual, Psychotic, True Drama
by Marneen L. Fields
Logline: From out of the blue on a foggy day in January 1991, a middle-aged mother is engulfed by the darkness of schizophrenia, vanishing from her family of thirty-five years. For nearly nine years, she battled homelessness, a deadly brain lymphoma, and breast cancer. Her loving daughter, driven by unwavering hope, never gives up on finding her and bringing her home. In the vein of A Beautiful Mind, The Elephant Man, and The Sixth Sense.
Who's Gonna Take Care of Me? is one of the most extraordinary mother-daughter love stories ever told. Names have been changed. The film covers the tragic events of my mother's life from 1991 to 2000 before she was brought home to safety. I've also included devastating events from her childhood that could have been a prerequisite to her developing schizophrenia.
My mom's survival and being brought home to safety was our favorite story: we shared it with each other every day after she was found. Now, as I promised her, my goal is to bring her amazing story to movie screens worldwide to touch the hearts of millions.
My Goal! Through the years, I've never wavered in my desire to help the mentally ill who are homeless and their families with my mom's true story, because no one should have to suffer as she did. My screenplay has won or been nominated for nine best screenplay awards since 2018. My mom helped narrate what she wanted in the script in the early 2000s. Through the years, I've cried alone as I chiseled the screenplay into the award-winning script it is today. I've always known in my heart the great inspiration my mother's story could be to millions of families suffering due to loved ones living with severe mental illnesses and life-threatening cancers while battling homelessness.
Who's Gonna Take Care of Me? has the potential to become one of the world's favorite, heart-wrenching mother-daughter stories on the big screen. After missing for nearly nine years and believed to be dead, my mother was miraculously found in Seattle, Washington. She had battled schizophrenia, homelessness, and multiple cancers. I became her legal guardian and brought her home to safety, where I cared for her until she passed away in 2012.

Imagine a world where severely mentally ill and cancer-ridden homeless people could get the help they need and no longer be in danger.
Why We Need Your Help
Producing a feature film of this magnitude requires significant funding. Initially, the film was budgeted at $3-5 million, and I would still like to see that happen to give the film the justice it deserves. Raising $300,000 will lift the film to SAG low budget status and help me complete postproduction on Part One and continue production on Part Two.
Our Journey So Far
-
Filming of Part One: Completed and entered postproduction a few months ago.
-
Funds Raised: $15,627 exhausted; Heavenly Waterfall Productions contributed $ 5,000.
-
Achievements: Thanks to 75 generous donors, 50 actors and crew members have already worked on this project.
What We Need
To finish postproduction on Part One and prepare for Part Two in 2025, we need:
-
Editing Specialists: For color correction, lighting correction, time coding, graphics/titles, and sound.
Why Now?
Completing postproduction on Part One is crucial for distribution and attracting co-executive producers/investors for Part Two.
My Personal Commitment
In 2025, I will continue to submit the footage that's been shot to investors and/or distributors to see if I can achieve success with the film. I'm making my directorial debut after 47 years in the entertainment industry as a successful SAG actress and former Hollywood stuntwoman who's appeared in over 100 big budget films and primetime TV shows working with A-list actors and directors like Clint Eastwood, Stanley Kramer, Irwin Allen, James Fargo, and many more.
