Tales of the Black Devil: Chapel at Sundown takes place in the rolling green fields of turn-of-the-century England in a world where the magic arts are integrated with daily life. We meet Declan, a young witch, and through him learn what it is to be a Black Devil.

I have spent years developing Tales of the Black Devil. the Chapel at Sundown is the start of a multi-issue story arc that I’m really excited about. The goal is to open up this world and develop it with expanded lore, new storylines and characters exploring magic and the mystic arts like never seen before, and I would love your help.

What the money from the campaign pays for:

1. Colorist John Yurcaba

I wanted to be able to pay a fair rate to a colorist. I trust that there are better colorists than me and I want that for my book. It’s a pleasure to work with someone that’s into the spooky stuff, John is the perfect person for the job.

The more interesting people I can collaborate with, with coloring, covers - even writing down the road, frees me up to do the things that I love like world building, illustration and story telling.

2. Self-Publishing Costs

Self-publishing gives me the freedom to write the stories that speak to me. I don’t want to tell someone else’s story. I don’t want to join the big two. Im not really that interested in selling TOTBD off to a company, I want the freedom to collaborate with artists and writers I resonate with.

3. World Building

As a storyboard artist during the day, I think about story all the time but rarely am I thinking about my own. I would love to be able to prioritize telling my story.

I didn’t go with the original launch because I wanted to take my time and do it right, and that’s what I’ve done with Black Devil as a whole. I really care about this project and it would be amazing to be able to dedicate myself to it.

I’m currently illustrating issue 2 and writing issues 3 and 4, thank you for you support with creating this Universe and beyond.
