Rabbit & Bear 2027 Calendar
Hello everyonel
My name is Tara Shannon, author and illustrator of Rabbit &
Bear. Maybe you've seen the image below? It went viral in March 2020.
Since then, I've had the privilege of publishing 5 books and a
journal, 4 of which feature my beloved Rabbit & Bear. Our first
campaign was back in 2020, for a book and a calendar, and we've run
one every year since. This year, we're back with our 2027 Rabbit
& Bear calendar campaign, and we'd love your help bringing it to life.
This year's campaign is for the calendar only, and every penny
raised goes toward covering the cost of printing, and for things
like envelopes and shipping labels. This has always been a labour of
love. We don't make much from it, but it brings us, and hopefully
you, so much joy.
A note on timing, please read this bit!!!
This campaign, and shipping, are time sensitive, so please don't
wait too long to order.
If you're in the US or overseas
and hoping to have your calendar in time for the New Year, please
order as early as you can. To keep shipping costs as low as
possible, we ship by standard letter mail, with no tracking. This
means we can't guarantee an exact arrival date, especially for our
overseas friends in places like Australia and New Zealand, where it
can take up to four months for parcels to arrive.
Please rest assured, your calendar will arrive. It just may take
some patience! Because of this, we're not able to offer refunds or
send replacement orders for items that are delayed in the post. We
know that's a big ask, and we're so grateful for your understanding.
A quick note for our US fans
Tariffs have made this year a bit trickier, but we didn't want
that to stop us offering calendars to our wonderful US supporters.
We looked into printing in the US and shipping from there, and on
paper, it seemed like it might be the simpler option. But after
getting quotes, it's still more affordable, even with the looming
tarifs, to print everything here in Canada with the printer we know
and trust (the one just down the street from me!)
So here's how it will work: all calendars, including US orders,
will be printed together here in Canada, then your orders will be
shipped in bulk to a single location in the US, where each
individual calendar will be posted on to you from there.
What's inside this year's calendar
I'm really excited about this one. It touches, as many of my
Rabbit & Bear dialogues do, on themes of grief, loss and hope
(survival!)... themes so many of you have asked me to explore. And
so, as always, it's a calendar that's very close to my heart.
Inside you`ll find some old favourites (dialogues you may
recognise from before), plenty of new ones only ever shared on my
social media, and a couple that have never been published anywhere
at all. Every illustration is brand new.
And this year, every calendar order will also include a specially
designed Rabbit & Bear bookmark, a little extra thank you from
us to you, and still light enough to ship easily (and without
incurring extra shipping costs) alongside your calendar.
Every single calendar will be signed by me,
If you've followed my journey and collected my books along the
way, you'll know that each calendar is a little visual diary of how
far Rabbit & Bear, and I, have come. From the simple black and
white sketches in Make a Wish, through the deepening colour and
dialogue of Return with the Light, to the lush landscapes of Look
For Me and Littlest Light on the Longest Night, it's all been
leading here. I can't wait for you to see this one.

An update on me
Many of you have been following along with my breast cancer
journey since it began in 2024, and my surgery in 2025, so I wanted
to share an update here too. I'm doing well. I'm now a two-time
survivor, and through all of it, Rabbit & Bear have continued to
be right there with me just as they have been through everything
else.
Thank you for walking alongside me through this, it has meant more
than you know.
On a happier note, Rabbit & Bear have had quite the growth
spurt lately, too! Two posts went viral recently, and my Instagram
has grown by over 10,000 followers in just over a week, now sitting
at more than 28,800 followers. Our little community keeps growing
everywhere... Facebook is around 312,000+, and our Substack is now
over 2,900. I'm so grateful to each and every one of you, new and
long time followers alike.
About me (and Rabbit & Bear)
I made a wish a long time ago to someday publish a book.
I created Rabbit (not yet Bear) in 2019, to bring myself some hope
and comfort while I processed my own grief, loss, anxiety and
despair. Between 2009 and 2013 I experienced a miscarriage, the end
of my marriage, the loss of both my parents, and my own cancer
diagnosis. On top of all that, while I was on medical leave from
work, my job was terminated. It was a lot, packed into a short space
of time, though I don't remember thinking of it that way at the
time. I was mostly just focused on putting one foot in front of the
other, however gracefuly or ungracefully that looked. Somewhere in
the back of my mind, I knew that sooner or later I'd need to sit
with all of those feelings properly. Rabbit & Bear helped me do
that, and I started sharing my simple drawings and dialogue with
friends and family online. I had no expectations beyond that just a
hope that my words might help someone else, somewhere down the line.
A few months later, and quite literally overnight, the whole world
seemed to need my Rabbit & Bear, too. COVID-19 had arrived, and
one of my drawings ("I'm afraid," said Rabbit) went viral.
Who are Rabbit and Bear?
I don't assign either of them a specific gender. To me, Rabbit is
the younger, questioning version of ourselves, and Bear is the
older, wiser version. Unsurprisingly, I see my own parents and
grandparents in Bear, and the things they tried to pass on to me.
And I see the child I lost in Rabbit. Together, they've become my
way of having back something of what I lost, my parents and my
child. The questions Rabbit asks, and the answers Bear gives, are
the things I still wish I could hear from my parents, and the things
I wish I could pass on to my own child, as I find my way through the
world without them.
That Rabbit and Bear have reached so many of you means more to me
than I can properly put into words. I'm endlessly grateful, and
excited to see where these two take us next.
About this campaign
I'm raising funds in partnership with my publisher, Wintertickle
Press, to cover the cost of printing the 2027 Rabbit & Bear calendar.
There are lots of ways to support this campaign, from just a few
dollars up to much more. Our thank you gifts work the same way, from
our heartfelt thanks, right up to a stack of signed calendars, and
bookmarks ready for you to enjoy or gift to the people you love.
Shipping is charged separately
, and we hope to begin sending orders out no later than November
2026, so that as many of you as possible have your calendar in hand
for the holidays.
A few important things to know before you order:
* Shipping costs continue to rise every year, and please believe
us when we say we're not making anything on shipping. This really is
a labour of love, through and through.
* We ship by standard letter mail with no tracking, to keep costs
down for everyone.
* Overseas orders, particularly to Australia, New Zealand, and
similarly distant locations, can take three to four months to
arrive. Please be patient with us.
***US orders will be printed here in Canada, then shipped in bulk
to a single US location before being posted individually to you.
* We're not able to offer refunds or send second replacement
orders. Your calendar will arrive, we promise, but we can't
guarantee exact timing, especially over the holidays.
Risks & Challenges
Risks and challenges are low, as the calendar design is complete
and ready to go to the printer as soon as we know how many we need
to print. What remains is printing and shipping. Any challenges will
most likely come down to printing or shipping delays on the part of
our printer, or issues vith Canada Post (and, for US orders, the
additional leg of transport within the US).
