Heart of Intentions

At Burning Man, art is not something you look at, it’s something you participate in.
Heart of Intentions is a medium scale interactive installation where participants exchange something invisible but deeply personal, their intentions, hopes, and quiet truths.
Participants write an intention onto a small charm (provided) and place it onto the heart. In return, they take a different intention left by someone else, becoming part of a living cycle of exchange between people who may never meet again.
What begins as a simple gesture becomes something larger, a shared act of trust between strangers in the middle of the desert.
The Experience
The main structure is a large wooden heart designed to encourage gathering, pause, and reflection.
Participants choose a charm. They write something honest, something they want to release or send forward. They attach it to the heart.
Then they take another.
Someone else’s hope. Someone else’s reminder. Someone else’s offering.
They make a finished necklace or keychain with the provided materials and they carry it with them into the world.
What We Are Building
This installation is being built for durability, interaction, and survival in extreme Playa conditions. It includes:
- A large structural wooden heart, adorned with crystals
- A seating area for reflection
- A safe, open footprint for continuous public interaction
- Weather resistant materials suitable for wind, dust, and heat
- Transportable construction designed for easy assembly and disassembly on Playa that reduces moop.
Every piece is intentionally chosen to ensure the work can live, function, and endure in the harsh environment of the desert.
Why This Project Matters
In a temporary city built on impermanence, Heart of Intentions creates a different kind of permanence, not in objects, but in exchange.
People leave with something they didn’t bring: a stranger’s words, carried forward quietly into their life beyond the desert.
They then leave behind something of their own.
It is a small, human reminder that we are constantly affecting each other, even when we do not know it.

- Construction materials for the structure
- Hardware, fasteners, and reinforcement systems
- Intention charms and writing materials
- Lighting and visibility elements for night interaction
- Transportation to and from the Playa
