Support “Tectonic Crates” at Nest 2025
We’re asking for your help. We’re aiming high - literally - with plans to build a four metre tall tower rising from reclaimed wood. To make the full vision a reality, we need to hit our fundraising target. If we fall short, the structure will be scaled down to match the budget we achieve, but who really wants a little campfire? Let’s build something unforgettable!
We’re fundraising to cover:
-
Transport of materials to the site
-
Hardware, and safety gear
-
Fire safety equipment and cleanup materials
- Crates!
-
Post-burn restoration and Leave-No-Trace efforts
- Fuel for the burn!
Â
Tectonic Crates - a monumental gateway rising from
reclaimed pallet crates, powered by tension, balance, and collective effort.
A large-scale sculptural gateway built from upcycled pallet crates, standing through a balance of tension and force. It’s a meeting point between earth and sky, a monument to reuse, resilience, and renewal, culminating in a shared burn that releases its energy back into the land.
Tectonic Crates is built entirely from upcycled, heat-treated pallet crates, repurposing industrial waste into large-scale art. By using reclaimed wood, we reduce the demand for new materials and lower the project's environmental footprint.
But we can’t do it alone.

Tectonic Crates is a large-scale sculptural gateway composed of four towering forms made from upcycled pallet crates. Arranged in mirrored pairs, the towers lean inward and converge at their peaks, forming two vast arches. The structural integrity of the piece depends on opposing forces: each tower pair is held in place through tensile wires connected to its counterpart across the axis. This balance-through-tension system mirrors the invisible yet immense pressures that govern tectonic movement—forces that shift continents, form mountains, and fracture landscapes. Like tectonic plates, these crate towers are both grounded and in motion.
The structure acts as a monumental threshold—an intersection of gravity and intention where physical form becomes symbolic space. As participants pass beneath the twin arches, they are drawn into a moment of quiet awe, suspended between grounded mass and open sky. The towers, though rigid in material, hum with latent motion, their stacked crates suggesting geological layers, scaffolds of thought, or coded relics of an unknown civilization. This is not just an object to behold, but a space to enter—one that invites reflection on the unseen structures, tensions, and balances that shape our internal and external worlds.
By reimagining discarded materials as tectonic elements, Tectonic Crates speaks to cycles of collapse and emergence, and to the unseen tensions that shape both the planet and the self. In the context of this year’s theme, the piece becomes a conduit between the pulse of the earth below and the ether above—a ritual structure held together by the same delicate tensions that bind ecosystems, communities, and inner worlds. As it eventually burns, the structure symbolically releases these held forces, letting them dissolve back into the dust and sky from which they came.
