My name is Raymond Hight, and I'm an independent filmmaker from Chicago, Illinois. For years, I've dreamed of bringing my own stories to the big screen. Now, I'm taking the first major steps toward making that dream a reality with my original feature film, Killer Fashion.
THE STORY
Set in Chicago in the summer of 2008, Killer Fashion follows Tiffany Sinclair, a talented 21-year-old Black woman determined to break into the fashion industry. After facing repeated rejection from an industry that doesn't recognize her beauty or potential, Tiffany is unexpectedly selected for Elite Intensive, an exclusive modeling program offering a chance to walk in New York Fashion Week. Behind the glamour and opportunity lies a cutthroat world of impossible beauty standards, ruthless competition, and girls who begin falling to tragic accidents. As the pressure to succeed intensifies, Tiffany's self image begins to unravel, and her desperation to prove herself takes a terrifying turn. What begins as a story about a young woman fighting to be seen becomes a psychological descent into obsession, violence, and the dangerous pursuit of perfection.
WHY THIS FILM MATTERS TO ME
As an African American filmmaker from Chicago, I want to tell stories that center complex characters and explore experiences that don't always receive the attention they deserve. Killer Fashion examines colorism, exclusion, and the psychological toll of being told that who you are will never be enough. Inspired by films like Black Swan, Pearl, and The Neon Demon, I want to create a visually striking, emotionally unsettling thriller that challenges conventional beauty standards while giving black women the opportunity to be complicated, ambitious, vulnerable, and powerful on screen. My goal is to create an original independent film that connects with audiences, creates opportunities for artists, and demonstrates what's possible when emerging filmmakers take a chance on their vision.
