Sagas of the Shield Maiden Enamel Pin
Hello and welcome to the campaign for the creation of the very first Sagas of the Shield Maiden Enamel Pin! Designed by original Shield Maiden character designer Michell Marham, this pin will be 40mm in height and will have black nickel plating. Take a look at the fantastic design below.
It is the first piece of merchandise produced for the Sagas of the Shield Maiden comic. For those of you who don't know what Sagas of the Shield Maiden is...
What is Sagas of the Shield Maiden?
Sagas of the Shield Maiden is an oversized, Viking western, perfect bound comics anthology series (created and written by me, Asa Wheatley) that recounts the legends, or sagas, of the titular Shield Maiden as she traverses Scandinavia and beyond the North Sea.
Each tale takes place at a different point in the Shield Maiden's life. From her first raid in England to a spout of bloody vengeance and her eventual death. As well as obviously being heavily influenced by Viking history and Norse mythology the stories all draw upon traits and themes commonly found in the western genre.
Both Book One & Two haveover 40 pages of comics and an amazing pin up gallery from artists including Fell Hound, Angela Wu, Raquel Kusiak and Elena Gogou. Sagas of the Shield Maiden Book One & Two are presented in an oversized perfect bound format with each book totaling 64 pages including covers.
By extending the width of the pages I wanted to replicate the wide angles often used in western films. Giving the reader a greater sense of the expansive nature of the setting.
Will I like Sagas of the Shield Maiden?
Sagas of the Shield Maiden is inspired not only by the Viking sagas and Norse mythology but also spaghetti westerns and samurai cinema. Mirroring the conversion to Christianity in Scandinavia with the 'taming' of the wild west towards the end of the 19th century.
If you're a fan of any of the following you'll likely get a huge kick out of this book:
- Movies/TV: The Witcher, The Last Kingdom, The Good, the Bad & The Ugly, Yojimbo, Vikings, The Mandalorian.
- Comics/Books: Eternal, Heathen, Wonder Woman: Dead Earth, Norse Mythology, Sagas of the Icelanders.
- Video Games: Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, Jotun, The Banner Saga.
Audience Suitability - Sagas of the Shield Maiden contains some explicit language, mild nudity and violence and is therefore suggested for a mature audience.

Rewards & Add-Ons
As well as the pin itself there are a number of other rewards available as part of this campaign. If you missed either of the previous volumes of Sagas of the Shield Maiden they are available here individually or as a very limited bundle with the pin. You can also pick up the fantastic pin up prints from Book Two of Sagas of the Shield Maiden.
On top of the Sagas of the Shield Maiden rewards comics that I have previously written and published are also available as add ons:
- Campfire Stories is a 28 page one-shot comic anthology containing five tales of terror all set around Ruby Rivers Summer Camp.
- Tails of Mystery is a noir comic mini-series following an old school private detective that, through a combined effort of bad luck and bad choices, gets stuck in the body of a black cat.
- Sprouting & Other Tales of the Curious is a 40 page perfect bound comics and prose anthology focusing on stories of the strange and the weird.
Timeline
This campaign will run between 8th November and 6th December. Once the campaign finishes and the funds have come through I will send off the pin design to the manufacturer to begin creation. I expect the pins to be delivered some time in Feburary 2023 (allowing for delays due to Christmas) and as long as everything is all good then I hope to begin shipping in March 2023 with rewards reaching backers between April 2023 - June 2023. Should any additional delays occur I will inform all backers as soon as I find out. The comics themselves are all already printed so once the only product we'll be waiting on is the pins themselves.
Why Crowdfundr?
As production for Sagas of the Shield Maiden Book Three continues I wanted to give readers something they could share their love of our titular character with, while they waited for Book Three. To tie in with Crowdfundr x Thought Bubble I thought a pin of everyone's favourite Shield Maiden would be perfect. This is also a way to support me and my comic writing and help us fund the beginning of Book Three so that completion of Book Three comes quicker.
