Daniel Heitman hasn't added a story.
My name is Daniel D. Heitman. I am a 61 year old homeless man in Central Florida. Up until September of 2022, I was happily married and enjoyed helping my wife raise her two kids. We had a beautiful, small house in Deltona, Florida and we were happy.
Most of my working career I spent in the construction industry. But that was hard on my body and, eventually, I had to have back surgery, which effectively ended my career. At the time of our split, I had not worked for several years other than an occasional handy man project for neighbors and friends.
Since that time(15 months ago), I have been homeless.
I have some medical issues that make it hard for me to get around or to find work. I had fusion surgery on my back. I have had one knee replacement and I need the other. I have COPD and Emphysema. I also have Gout in both hands and both feet which has put me in a wheelchair twice. I can keep it in check, though, with prescription meds. I have that and other medications which total $400 every month. I do not have the money available for them any longer. As result, I have been to the Emergency Room two times in the last several weeks. Mostly because of the cold weather.
Two weeks ago, I took and passed the State Exam to get my License and sell Life Insurance. I have been offered a position with Senior Life Services to work for them as an Agent. However, for that I need a computer and an internet connection. I have a friend who said I can use his place during the day and use the internet, but still have no computer.
When I moved out of our house, I had a vehicle, which I used to work for Uber and Lyft, but the transmission on it went out in April and I did not have the money to fix it.
In November of last year, I somehow got a loan and finally bought another car. This allowed me to once again work as a ride share driver. But in December of last year I was involved in an accident and my insurance refused to cover my claim. In fact, they cancelled my policy because I was doing ride share.
Now, I once again have no vehicle.
I do, however, have a plan:
- HOUSING – I have a place I can rent, from a family friend for only $800 per month. All he is asking for is the first month rent ($800). Also, I have been on the waiting list for Section 8 housing for three months. Once either of those comes through, I will have a place to live.
- EMPLOYMENT – I already mentioned the Life Insurance opportunity, which would be very good, I believe. They have guaranteed me a position and a salary of at least $60,000 a year. I really hope and pray that this opportunity comes to fruition. Lacking that, I can still work in a convenience store or gas station until something better comes along.
- TRANSPORTATION – As soon as I can, I plan on getting a ”Scooter/Moped” to get around on. This will allow me to get around to Doctor Appointments and back and forth to any potential job. Eventually, I hope to be able to afford another vehicle. If so, I will then pass on the scooter to someone who needs it.
- MARRIAGE – More than anything, I want to be able to repair my marriage and my relationship with my family. My ex-Wife has said that this is a possibility, but first, I have to prove to her that I can be the man I once
- HEALTH – I have secured insurance through the Marketplace and as soon as I can afford to, I will start seeing the specialists that I need in order to improve and maintain my health situation.
- FOOD & OTHER EXPENSES – I am currently receiving $281 in Food Stamps each month, but, with todays grocery prices, this does not last me the entire month. I do not currently have rent or utilities to pay for but, this will undoubtedly be a need in the future. I also have put in for Disability benefits and am awaiting a decision from Social Security now. This is my 5th time applying. I will also be eligible for regular social security benefits in about 6 weeks when I turn 62.
As you can see, it has been a wild ride this last year and a half. Some would call it a ”Perfect Storm”. Through all of this, I am trying to stay positive. At times, that gets really hard to do. But I keep plugging away. Depression is real and I now understand that better than I ever have.
I am in a position now that makes it necessary to ask for help. I have used up all of my resources and am in dire straits. That is the reason I am writing this letter.
I need a reset button.
I am asking for anywhere from $100 to $2,500.
The higher end of this would allow me to get the apartment and be out of the cold at night. It would also allow me to get some transportation and the food and medication that I need. And, maybe most important, I could get the computer and start my new job.
The lower end ($100) or anything in between would help me with some of the other things that I need to make it through the winter.
I know this is a lot of money, and to me it seems like an ENORMOUS amount. I also know that it is very unorthodox of me to ask a total stranger for this kind of help. But I feel like I am at the end of my rope and I have no other choice.
Please help me if you can. I would be eternally grateful and will do my best to pay it forward to someone else who finds their self in a similar situation.
I would also send you small amounts of money until I have paid anything you give to me back to you.
I truly feel like this could save my life.
I have two ways of receiving or sending money:
CashApp – my “CashTag” is $DTMWTP
PayPal – my PayPal account is under my email address: dheitman62@aol.com
Either of those two ways would get the money to me immediately and I would be able to use it to improve my situation.
I am asking for you to send me $2,500 or any smaller part of it. ANYTHING you can do would help tremendously.
If you wish to contact me, I will leave my phone number below. Please, feel free to text or call me at any time.
Thank You Very Much For Your Time And Consideration.
Thank You & God Bless
Daniel D. Heitman
