My name is Heidi Mikac and I'm an award-winning filmmaker from Bloomington, Indiana. I have written, produced, and directed several short films such as Written in the Dark, Finding Light in the Darkness, and The Recovery Three. My first feature film, Written in the Light won three awards including, best editing, best feature and best drama.
Now, I'm bringing audiences back into that world with Written in the Dark, a far more intimate and emotionally devastating story. Inspired by true events, the film follows Skyler, a young woman battling anorexia and bulimia while living under the care of her mother, Leah. As Leah's obsession with appearance and control intensifies, it unknowingly fuels the very illness consuming her daughter.
Written in the Dark explores the painful realities of eating disorders, family dynamics, and the lasting impact of emotional abuse. Through an honest and compassionate lens, the film aims to spark conversation, encourage understanding, and remind those who are struggling that they are not alone.
