Why We Embarked on This Journey
Nestled deep in the lush rainforests of Petungkriyono, Pekalongan, Central Java, lies an ancient tradition passed down through generations: honey hunting. This practice is not just a means of sustenance but a way of life, connecting the people of Petungkriyono with their environment in a profound and sustainable way. However, with modernization and dwindling economic opportunities, this tradition is at risk of being forgotten.
We launched The Honey Hunter Project to preserve this cultural heritage, empower the local honey hunters, and create a sustainable income source for them by bringing their raw, forest-fresh honey to the world. Through this project, we aim to:
- Protect the rainforest by incentivizing conservation through sustainable honey harvesting.
- Share the rich stories of these honey hunters with the world.
- Build a sustainable livelihood for the local community.

The Risks
Honey hunters climb towering trees, often over 30 meters tall, using hand-carved bamboo ladders. They brave angry swarms of Apis dorsata bees, which fiercely protect their hives, all while ensuring they do not harm the colonies. A single misstep could mean a life-threatening fall or severe bee stings. -
The Process
The honey hunters follow strict sustainable practices. They only harvest honey during specific seasons to ensure the bees can regenerate their colonies. Using natural torches made from dried coconut leaves, they create smoke to calm the bees before collecting the golden nectar by hand. This honey is then carefully filtered and packed to preserve its wild, unadulterated flavor. -
Turning Challenges into Opportunities
By creating a direct-to-consumer supply chain, we aim to transform their hard-earned honey into a premium product. Every jar will tell the story of the forest, the bees, and the hunters who risk their lives to bring it to us.
Why We Need You
