My name is Jennifer Matos, and I am seeking grant funding in support of my documentary series, Silent Scars, as well as the publication of my book, My Silence Is Over, which tells the full story behind the project. This deeply personal project is based on my true-life experiences as a Deaf Latina woman who survived the foster care system, enduring years of abuse, neglect, assault, abduction, and separation from my Deaf biological family.

Silent Scars shares the raw emotion and powerful truths seen in films like The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez, The Florida Project, White Oleander, and Antwone Fisher. It exposes the harsh realities of the foster care system while sending a message of survival, resilience, and the urgent need for systemic change. Through intimate storytelling and firsthand accounts, Silent Scars aims to give a voice to foster children, particularly those with disabilities, who have been silenced and ignored for too long.

To further illustrate the importance of this project, I have attached a trailer that provides a preview of the series. The trailer captures the emotional gravity and urgency of this story, and I believe it will help convey the impact of this project.

I am requesting funding to support key areas of production, including filming, editing, accessibility features (such as ASL interpretation and closed captioning), and distribution. This documentary is more than my personal journey—it’s a call to action to advocate for vulnerable children and bring about meaningful change in the foster care system.
