The Light We Carry
I am writing a film that delves deep into the unspoken struggles of surviving family and friends of those who have lost their lives to suicide and overdose. The story centers around a young girl’s painful yet transformative journey into adulthood after her father’s overdose
This is not just a film about loss. It’s a story about survival. It’s about the unseen scars that families bear long after the tragic event. It’s about the complex emotions of love, grief, anger, and resilience that ripple through the hearts of those left behind. What happens when a loved one’s struggle becomes part of your own? How do we rebuild ourselves after being shattered by the sudden and unexpected departure of someone we held dear?
Through the lens of this young girl, we explore the confusion and isolation that comes with growing up in the shadow of trauma. We watch her navigate the pain of losing a father—someone who, in life, seemed like he would always be there—and the toll that his death takes on her family. But amid the heartbreak, we also see her begin to understand the complexities of mental health and addiction, and how those struggles, though heavy, don’t have to define her.
This film is dedicated to the families and friends who have had to carry on after such devastating losses. It aims to shed light on their experience, and to give them a voice—because often, their stories are left untold. This project is an opportunity to bring attention to the realities of surviving suicide and overdose, and to show that even in the darkest moments, there is always room for hope, healing, and new beginnings.
I am seeking funding for this film to help bring this powerful and meaningful story to the screen. Your support would allow me to craft a raw and honest portrayal of the lasting effects of suicide and overdose on the people who are left behind, and ultimately to inspire change, conversation, and healing.
This isn’t just my story. It’s the story of so many people who are still learning how to move forward. And together, we can create a narrative that honors their strength and resilience.
Thank you for considering this project. Let’s share this message of survival, love, and hope.
