Beth and Angel hasn't added a story.
Hi! 🙋♀️ Welcome to our campaign!
We're Beth and Angel, and we love making stuff: games, zines, IRL experiences, weird experimental stuff... it's all fantastic! We especially enjoy sharing positivity, self-encouragement, and self-discovery things, as well as solo journaling games.
We're here on Crowdfundr as part of Tabletop Nonstop to make MORE stuff: more zines to be precise. We plan to make a total of 16 zines throughout February based on some prompts we've come up with, as well as some prompts our Enlightened Egret patrons vote for! We should each create one every four days, and then a final one each on Leap Day! And if you grab the Tier Two or Tier Three perk from the right, you'll get all 16 of them digitally after the campaign ends! None of these zines are made yet, so we'll be just as surprised as you when they're done, but we're aiming for a bunch of games, some perzines (zines about personal things), and who knows what else. 🤔
We're
running this campaign because, honestly, we want more people to
discover what we make. We've released over 100
things including 47 zines, and
48 of our
releases are free (or have free versions)! While we couldn't be
happier to have the fans we have, we'd love to reach even more people.
And, honestly, we could use the money. 2023 was a rough year for our
savings account, and our home is falling apart. We have soooooooo much
to repair and replace, and I'd love to be proud of the home we live in
rather than dodge holes in the floor and other assorted issues...
And we'd love to include YOU on our creating journey! Throughout this campaign, we'll have numerous points where you can contribute ideas, challenge us, and help us grow as creators. We're excited to share our progress along the way, too! Whether you're our only backer or we somehow get a bunch and I cry in joy at the utter surprise of it, you matter, and you're why we create!
Zines
are magical little books, basically! The zine scene is a big place,
ranging from hand-made zines to actual published (generally in small
quantities by local printers) booklets.
The most basic and common zine is made from a single sheet of paper, and it's shown in that header above. Everything is on a single side of the paper and you fold it, cut once across the middle while it's folded, and then fold it back up again. This creates a little book you can flip through!
^ This video walks through making and folding a zine in about 3 minutes!
Some people write and draw these by hand and then scan them into their computer —maybe we'll try that for the first time during this campaign, or later as a challenge?— and others do it digitally. That's what we do: we created a couple of Canva templates (one for the page layout, one for the individual pages) and then we create the pages and place them on a single printable page.
In general, our digital perzines are free on Itch and the printable sheet is $1, but that price goes up for more elaborate creations and games. We're aiming for more of the latter in this campaign, but you can check out all of our already-released zines here.
And speaking of which, all of our zines are released in two formats: the single printable page (which requires a printer or for you to turn your head or the image) and a digital version. The digital version is basically a book and can be read just like any other PDF. So if you don't have a printer, that's fine! Sometimes our games involve writing on the zine itself, but you can always use something like Paint to write on the screen or write on a piece of paper instead.
Throughout February, we're running Zineuary 2024, our very own
challenge! We've got five prompts that we'll each make zines for and
are free to interpret however we want, we'll use a random prompt
from the
Zine Idea
Generator, and two more slots will be suggested by YOU and
voted on by the
Enlightened
Egrets from our Patreon
. We don't have any idea what these might be, and we won't until
we go to make them! 😮
Regardless of the prompt, each release might be anything: games, poetry, personal stuff, photography... But either way, everyone who gets TIER TWO or TIER THREE will get ALL of them!
Once Zineuary is over, we're going into EXTRA MODE! This is a set of more strenuous challenges —ALL of which are provided by YOU!— that we'll have to complete. These aren't prompts like Zineuary, they're far more specific, like:
- 😻 "Make a zine for my partner who loves cats."
- 🏳️⚧️ "Make a zine of egg recipes using only the colors pink, blue, and white."
- ✍️ "Make a solo journaling game about zombies."
- ❌ "Make a zine with at least 100 words without using the letter 'e'."
There will be a minimum of five Extra Mode challenges, which means a minimum of five more zines (we may codesign these or we may each make our own)! Fill in this Google form before March with any challenge ideas you might have. The five following groups will vote on the challenges submitted (we might narrow them down if we get a bunch) in the following order, with the most-voted challenge from each being something we have to complete:
- One poll will be shared here in an update that everyone can vote in (even if you don't contribute; subscribe to be notified!).
- One poll will be shared on our Patreon that everyone can vote in (no membership required I don't think? I've never tried it before).
- One will be exclusive to everyone who contributes to our campaign here: we'll message you a link to a poll.
- All of our paid patrons (from $3/month and up) will get to vote in one.
- All of our Enlightened Egret patrons will get to vote in the final one.
How do you get more? Anyone can challenge us DIRECTLY by purchasing the "Challenge Us" add-on!
Please note: we reserve the right to request a different challenge if we're uncomfortable with it (we're wholesome, family-friendly creators) or request further information if you want a zine made as a gift or about a topic you're passionate about.
With higher rewards come higher costs: everyone who gets at least TIER THREE: "Extra Mode: Activate!" will get everything we make from the Extra Mode challenges and contribute a community copy to each of them when they are released on itch.
We'll complete these challenges in a random order (or when we're inspired to make one) and will begin after Zineuary ends. I can't guarantee when we'll complete them as we'll need a break first, and who knows how many we'll get, but we'll get to them as soon as we're able. :D
We've
teamed up with Rochelle Boggs of
Warped Board Games to create a collection of zines, each of
which will have at least three 24-word RPGs! Each of us is creating
one, and we're each contributing to one another's. Ours is called
Be the Light You Want to See in the World.
Changing the world starts with changing yourself, and then letting
your light shine!
Getting ANY tier (including Tier One) will get you a copy of this zine. Because this is a co-designed zine, it will not be released immediately after Zineuary. It's more likely to be sent out in late March or April, and honestly, I (Beth) will probably be the one holding it up. 🤣
To get the other zine we're contributing to, check out You Ain't Zine Nothing Yet
While we love it when people buy what we make, the reason we make stuff is for people to experience it! We found a middle ground where we add community (free) copies to everything we release, and we're constantly on the lookout for creative new ways to add them.
When you get ANY of our tiers, you're adding community copies to a bunch of releases:
- Tiers One and Two give a community copy to each of the Zineuary zines. Not just one of the zines, all sixteen (or more if Zineuary is extended)!
- Tier Three gives a community copy to each of the Zineuary zines AND the Extra Mode zines!
You can also contribute even more community copies to each of the Zineuary zines and Extra Mode zines by getting our ADD-ON: More Keys, Please. This add-on allows you to either get an extra key of each to give away yourself or contribute an extra community copy of each. We'll reach out to you to ask which you prefer once the campaign ends.
Designer's
Notes are an awesome way to learn about your favorite zine and how it
was made!
These come in the form of a digital file (this isn't available to print in a foldable zine) that's just like the original on one side and with our notes on the other side.
^ Note: we've never created a Designer's Notes edition of anything
before, I just whipped this up as an example. This is the last page
of There's Always
a Window.
This is a great way to see why we made the design choices we made and/or learn more about us depending on which zine gets it. And maybe they'll help you as a creator too if you make zines! Or inspire you to try making one!
The "Designer's Notes, Please" perk or add-on will allow you to choose one Zineuary or Extra Mode zine to get the Designer's Notes treatment, and then that zine will permanently have a Designer's Notes edition available for everyone to purchase! You'll get a copy of the one you choose, of course.
We've
already released
almost 50 zines, so we may as well offer those too, right?
We have four bundles of zines available:
- A Bit of Us is a bundle of 10 zines of all sorts for $10. This includes four game zines (Look! A Squirrel; Just Rollin' With It; Regard With Esteem; and I Went to Bourbon, IN Once), four perzines (Hello! A Little Bit of Me; Beth Can't Play Instruments, and That's Okay: A Color-Along Adventure; Memories of My Grandmas; and My Transition Armor), one poetry zine (Mason Jar Wishes), and one photography zine (unexpected guests).
- Just the Games is a bundle of all 24 of our game zines for $25.
- All About the P’s: Poetry, Photography, and Perzines is everything else (our poetry, photography, and perzine zines): 23 zines for $20.
- ALL of our Previously Released Zines is, well, a bundle of all of our 47 previously released zines. It's $40, which is $5 off from buying the two other bundles separately.
I get it: I'm a wordy gal and I make stuff way more complicated
than it needs to be. I even edited this campaign a bunch of times, I
tried! 😭
So, to make things a little easier, here's an illustration of what each perk gets you. Everyone likes pictures, right?
Plus, bonuses from unlocked goals:
- ANYONE who contributes ANY amount of money gets to vote on one of the two added prompts from the Zineuary extension.
- Anyone who gets
TIER 2 or TIER 3 will also get:
- ZINEUARY HAS BEEN EXTENDED BY 8 DAYS! That means four more zines (a total of 20 zines now)!
- An exclusive THANK YOU zine!
- A set of bookmark games (which we need to choose still lol)
- The Spectacular Spectacles: An Everyday Enchanter experience
- TIER 3 also gets to vote on another EXTRA MODE zine challenge
- All paid members of our Patreon get games from TWO months before you joined rather than one after the campaign ends (you'll be given everything that released one month ago right when you join, and then the other month after the campaign ends)
- All community copy contributions are doubled!
- You have 🧡ALL of our appreciation!💜
If we've learned one thing about campaigns, it's that you
need a list of goals that you'll almost certainly never
hit that have cool rewards attached to them!
Look, we're just doing our part in the capitalistic machine,
okay? Plus, it's fun to come up with lots of goals and rewards!
We have three sets of goals, each of which has its own set of rewards. Unless stated otherwise, all rewards will be distributed after the campaign ends.
Note: to see how we're doing for Patreon membership and earnings, visit our "About" page and scroll to the bottom. The stats that matter are the "Total members" and "Per month" numbers. We normally hide our "Per month" earnings, but I turned that off so everyone can see the progress!
Crowdfundr Goals
We're on Crowdfundr, so we should have some Crowdfundr-related goals, right? The more money we earn, the more that everyone who gets our Tier 2 or Tier 3 perks gets at the end of the campaign!
Patreon: Membership Goals
Patreon and Itch are our lifeblood as creators. We sell things on Itch, and we have patrons who subscribe monthly on Patreon for all of our creations as we release them. We also have a bunch of people who join for free so they get emails when we post things, at least one bonus free release monthly, and almost everything we post is free to everyone. Anyone who joins as a free member gets Waffle Time (a roll-and-write game zine!).
One of my biggest goals has always been to get more members. Whether you join for free or contribute financially, I love knowing that what I write has a better chance of being read by someone! 🥳
These rewards benefit ALL of our patrons, even the free ones! We love our free members too, after all. 🧡💜
As a special note, my goal for the entirety of 2024 is 200 total patrons. So hitting either of those last three goals would be mind-blowingly incredible!
While being seen is amazing, so is surviving. And, thanks to glorious capitalism, that requires lots of money. We think it's amazing when anyone decides to part with some of their hard-earned cash in exchange for what we make each month! Gaming Geese ($5 members) get everything we released within the last month. See the Giveaways and Patreon tab for more info on our tiers and the rewards for each tier.
These rewards benefit our paid members.
Some notes:
- The $130 and $175 goal rewards —where all new paid patrons will get releases from two or three months ago— last throughout all of March.
- All paid patrons who joined before this Crowdfundr will get any bonus previously released games that they haven't already received too (from the $130 and $175 goals). I wouldn't neglect you! 🧡
- The above things happen AFTER the campaign ends as this number may increase OR decrease throughout the campaign. Anything shown unlocked is current, but lower goals can re-lock before the campaign ends. As such, all of the below rewards will be sent after the campaign ends.
If you're going to get stuff and things, you probably want to know when you'll get them, right?
- When Zineuary ends (either on the 1st of March or later if Zineuary is extended), we'll start reaching out to contributors and sending out the Zineuary zine keys, as well as any other rewards. It may take us a few days to get this process rolling though, forgive us please? 🥺 Zineuary is going to be a VERY busy time!
- Shortly after that, we'll start working on the Extra Mode zines. Depending on how many we get, this may take a while. We'll also likely take a week off after the Zineuary zines are fulfilled before we begin the Extra Mode zines because we're going to be BUSY and need the break! 😅
- Also sometime after Zineuary ends, we'll start making the Itch pages for the zines, and send keys to our Zebra Finch Zinesters and higher-tier patrons. While some of these may be done shortly after Zineuary ends, we plan to release one prompt (two zines) at a time and space them out a bit. This means there will be an exclusivity period where only Crowdfundr contributors have the zines we made, and also that we can hopefully capitalize on new release windows on Itch for our zines.
To
paraphrase the greatest movie ever, The Princess Bride: "Life is
risk. Anyone who says otherwise is selling something."
What makes us qualified to do this? Well, we've done things like this before. A LOT, and we didn't even have people in our corner cheering us on! Plz cheer us on? 🥺
We've done a challenge just like this before —Mini Zine July 2023 (scroll down to "Prong 3: Mini Zine July 2023" for verification that we made SEVENTEEN zines last July)— and we love it! We eat challenges and deadlines for breakfast, feast on game jams for lunch, and then enjoy a balanced dinner because those breakfasts and lunches have no calories, and we'd starve to death otherwise.
However, we may fall behind. We're only human, and there's a lot going on in our personal lives right now. We'd originally intended to do a lot more to include you like streaming on Twitch and inviting viewers to challenge us, but because of our current circumstances, we can't. But hey, if this goes well and/or we have fun, maybe we'll do another one later this year, and then we can include you even more! 🙌
I can tell you this, though: we both have a very strong sense of "Oh crap, I said I'd do this thing and I'm behind on it, so I'm going to catch up because I hate breaking my word sooooooooooooo much!" And, should something terrible happen in our lives, we will certainly get these made and sent to you as soon as possible. I promise! Unless one of us dies or something... But that'd be super messed up and I doubt anyone expects us to make zines from beyond the grave. That'd require a WAY higher-priced perk.
Oh, and we both work for Weird Giraffe Games, a small tabletop publishing company. I do customer service and Angel does everything from promotion and newsletter writing to working on the website. We also both tackle a whole slew of other stuff. We each have experience with approximately 7 crowdfunding campaigns, so we've seen all of the stuff we're doing here inside and out. And I've even worked on fulfillment! But we're not doing that here, this is easy mode!

If we get enough of these to make a Designer's Notes edition for all of our Zineuary zines and Extra Mode zines, you get to choose from our previously made zines.
If by some chance all of those get Designer's Notes too, we'll be messaging you while crying with joy as you choose from any of our previously created games!
Remember: all rewards are digital.
You get to directly challenge us to make a zine! No voting, no recommendations, you just give us a challenge and we'll codesign a zine for it!
Note: we reserve the right to request a different challenge if we're uncomfortable with what you give us (we're wholesome, family-friendly creators) or ask for more info (if you want one made as a gift for someone or want it written about a topic you're passionate about).
Remember: all rewards are digital.
This is just like Challenge Us - Early Bird but more expensive. Either you didn't get one of those in time or you're an amazing person for buying a pricier one so someone else can get the more affordable option!
You get to directly challenge us to make a zine! No voting, no recommendations, you just give us a challenge and we'll codesign a zine for it!

Remember: all rewards are digital.
LOL I dunno, it's fun to make a ridiculously priced add-on, so I did. It's like a mega-expensive tip jar: you'll get a laugh and a shocked grin out of us both, probably even a party! In fact, if you get this add-on, I promise that when the campaign ends we'll use at least a decent chunk of it for something fun, and then write a Patreon post about it to share!
Seriously though, you don't get ANY actual rewards for this. It's a joke, but any money you spend on it is real.

Status Update: The Final Stretch!
Angel and I each have only TWO REMAINING ZINES to make!!!!! OMG it feels so great to be on track to hit the June 30th deadline for fulfilling Zineuary. That doesn't include our other rewards, of course, but it's the biggest chunk of it!
As part of the update, here's a bit about the SEVEN zines we've made since late May.
There
is Always a Door (by Beth)
There is Always a Door is titled after Bioshock: Infinite ("there is always a lighthouse, there is always a man, there is always a city"). But the zine itself has nothing to do with the game. Instead, it's a reminder that life has infinite possibilities and that losing out on something is hardly a reason to give up.
The Notebook's Lament (by Beth)
This is a perzine I wrote about the life of a neglected notebook. I originally intended to imbue it with impostor syndrome ("how can I have any value when laptops exist?"), but it took me in a different direction.
Instead, The Notebook's Lament is about a notebook filled with hopes and dreams, then tossed aside and forgotten about until years later when it's rediscovered with joy. It's based on me, actually: I used to bring a notebook to work with me and joyfully write ideas, work, or whatever else in it.
It also includes some not-so-sneaky transitioning on my part 🏳️⚧️
Oh the (Wholesome) Horror! (by Angel)
When I was first planning my zine for the wholesome horror prompt, it took me a bit to come up with what I wanted to do with this zine. Horror is really not a genre I go to when creating things and this seemed horror adjacent and I just knew it was going to take me a bit to warm up to the idea. But the more I thought about the idea of wholesome horror the more I understood why it was voted for us to make it. After really thinking about what that would mean to me, I came up with a plan to hand-make a zine for the first time. After all, that’s pretty horrifying for someone who can craft all day but arting… is another story.
I also quickly nixed/chickened out of that plan when my erasers were just not erasing good enough and I’d thrown away many pages to start over. I’m harsh on myself but seriously this was YIKES y’all. So I RAN (not walked) back to my good ol’ pal Canva and was much happier to create this zine there. I still liked the idea of stick figure art for this and found some pretty cute assets to use there.
So, now that I’m not horrifying people with my art, I still had the idea to make a zine about everyday scares because everyday life is scary enough! So I filled the little zine with things like songs that get stuck in my head, and other things that send me running away. I had fun making Oh The (Wholesome) Horror!! and hope everyone enjoys my silly take on the prompt.
Their Shadows Slumber - The Xenoarchaeologist (by Beth)
I made Their Shadows Slumber a month or two ago in a few hours for a limited-time jam. I thought it was okay, but I couldn't figure out how to improve it so I just left it.
When I saw the "Wholesome Horror" prompt, I knew making a supplement would make perfect sense. The game is about a crew who finds "sleeping planets" where everything has gone extinct, then collect what they can to preserve their civilization and learn their lessons. This allows them to live on forever!
However, on the way to the planet, the ship is hit by an asteroid and is damaged. Instead of preserving the items, you have to convert them to energy to use them to return home. This, to me, is terrifying: imagine if that was Earth, and everything we ever did was converted to fuel so someone could return home!
This zine adds a bunch of journaling prompts that are also intended to allow you to play the game with a new viewpoint. You're also journaling about what you find, so that even if the items can't make it home, at least your notes and discoveries about them can. There are also a couple of prompt tables for mechanical changes, too, and everything in the zine is separate so you can just use one journaling part or just the mechanical changes or whatever you want!
Anyone who backed at any tier level will also get a copy of Their Shadows Slumber when we fulfill Zineuary, which I updated quite a bit and I'm far more happy with now 🧡
Insomniac's
Lullaby (by Angel)
Option 35 was a funny glitch in our form that happened to win the vote anyway! So after some deep thought about what to do with this prompt, I made another prompt list: 35 zines I’d be interested in making right now. I put that list into a randomizer and instead of doing the 1st option that was picked, I did Option 35, Insomniac’s Lullaby.
I
made a darker version as this is to represent trying to sleep at
night, and a lower ink version to keep it friendly on other people’s printers.
I’ve had many sleep issues over the years and there are times I have gotten a total of about 4 hours of broken sleep over a week's time. When your best friend threatens to conk you over the head with a frying pan, you know something’s got to give. Lack of sleep makes me a bit… annoyed at EVERYTHING and everything just feels exhausting and overwhelming. So I wrote a poem that is sort of a lullaby for insomniacs. Something to say we’re not alone and sleep will eventually find us.
The Rambling Raconteur (by Beth)
This is actually TWO ZINES! One is for multiplayer, and one is for solo. Now, normally these would just be slightly different rules, but in this case, it's actually two different games with slightly different situations, but a general overall sameness to them.
In multiplayer, you're collaboratively telling a story about an adventure you had with your fellow party members. You each secretly list something someone else might talk about, and if they mention that thing they're eliminated until only one remains, the 35th story is told (this is for the "option 35" prompt), or a joker is drawn. If you're creative enough, everyone can win!
In solo, you're making up a story about the legendary heroes, drawing cards to share what each hero had done at the time. You can go back and forth in time with the story ("Oh wait, I forgot to tell you about this part!"), but have to stick to the hero drawn. You have up to three "favorite heroes" that you really want to paint in a good light, but you can't actually win or lose. It's based on a modified version of the "I Went to Japan Once" system!
The first image below is from the multiplayer zine, and the second is from the solo zine.
Angel and I are super excited to get these zines out to everyone, as well as the ones we made before and the few we have remaining. This has been such an incredible experience, and we're so happy to have had you along with us!
Yet Another Goal Deadline, LOTS of New Zine Images and Details
🏃 Progress: 21 zines down, 10 zines remain, LOTS of new zine images and details!
Hi! 🙋♀️ Beth here.
So in the last update, I said we'd hopefully finish by April 19th. That... didn't happen. It's been over a month since then, and we're still not done. I feel awful pushing the goal back repeatedly, let alone sharing this news so late, but this should be the final time. There's been household drama and I lost my job, and then I nearly moved out of this house because of that household drama (nothing to do with Angel, she's still amazing 🧡), and we spent weeks working in the garage to give us space to get through our stored stuff... It's been a lot.
But, on the bright side, our taxes got done, and were less than I anticipated! So all of your contributions mean we now have the start to a savings account, although a good portion of it (or all of it?) will go into some desperately needed home repairs. It's also allowed us to take this time to work on the house rather than immediately rush out to look for a new job.
Our new goal to complete the Zineuary zines and get them to you is JUNE 30th (my birthday month). This is one zine per week each (fewer for Angel!), which is far more realistic and doesn't stress us out. It should even have time baked in to go through our zines again and give em a final once-over before sending them out.
Again, it pains me to say this. We really hoped to have these zines done throughout the campaign, and that's been far from the case. We have been working hard at these zines, though, and now have 18 of the 28 prompts done! And you'll be getting extra zines as we came up with some extras for some of the prompts (which explains how we have 21 zines made but only 18 prompts done).
Plus, we're super proud of what we've been making. These zines are far bigger than we ever could've expected; I think I'm at about 100 pages written so far on my own 😮 And with the remaining zines I'll probably write another 40-60 pages, and that's not including everything Angel has written and will write!
Below is our current status.
We've each completed the themes highlighted in green; checkmarks represent
the ones we've completed. If there are two checkmarks, we made an
extra zine!
Also, three of our zines are supplements for two of our games. We'll be giving those games to anyone who gets the zines from our campaign :D
Contact Us?
We launched a new Discord server! Now it's 100% Beth and Angel-centric 🥳 We'd love to have you join us, and we've got a channel for suggestions in case we messed anything up 🤣 You can join here --> https://discord.gg/6bewN3TxYw
If you want to be more in the loop, ask questions, or check on our status anytime you can:

Zine Sneak Peeks
Angel pointed out that we haven't shared any images from our zines since the campaign ended! I'm so sorry about that :( Here are pics from a bunch more zines, as well as a quick synopsis for each! These are in order from earliest prompts to latest. And remember, we have lots on our campaign page too (in the "Zine Status" tab, although we can't update it anymore).
Angel wrote about hers, and I wrote about mine.
Angel's Fictitious Mail-Order Catalog - Scan a Distraction & BONUS Quid Pro Quo-talog
Scan a Distraction and Quid Pro Quo-talog are my (Angel) takes on the prompt Fictitious Mail Order Catalog.
Quid Pro Quo-talog (the second image) is a zine that catalogs different lists of our creations and ways to earn them like sharing the zine, posting a photo on social media, or giving someone a compliment. I felt like this was a bit self advertisey, so when I was part way through I changed my mind and made Scan a Distraction .
I use QR codes to make a catalog of distractions for each day of the week. When you scan the code you get taken to recipes, YouTube videos, and different sites to match the vibe set up on each page. After I was done making it I decided to go ahead and finish Quid Pro Quo-talog and include both zines.
Angel's BONUS Zine Idea Generator - The Personification of the Lost and Found
The Personification of the Lost and Found was made for the Zine Idea Generator prompt. The prompt was to make a Table-Top RPG zine that creates a persona around found objects. I had previously made Free Stuff Rocks! for this prompt but I really liked this random zine generator prompt too, I wanted to include more games for the Crowdfundr fulfillment and wanted to finish this zine, so I am including it as well.
This zine is a bit of a hack of a previous game we made called There’s Always a Window. The Personification of the Lost and Found is a solo journaling RPG where you start the game after finding something lost: it could be a rock, a glove, a coin, or a discarded water bottle… anything you’ve found. You make your way through some prompt tables journaling as you go. These prompts give your lost item a bit of background and interest in which to personify it. Everything has history and maybe even a bit of magic if you take the time to see it.
Beth's Zine Idea Generator - Into the Dadverse
Into the Dadverse is a silly "game," or collection of games, in the vein of Take a Nap and Have a Cuppa Joe. Whenever you tell a dad joke, someone else tells a dad joke, or one dad finishes another dad's joke, roll a d6 and see what happens!
I wrote on one page that "Dad jokes can be told by anyone of any gender, with or without kids. By telling a dad joke, you temporarily become a dad yourself."
Angel's Fictional How-To
Guide - How to Just Make It Happen
How to Just Make It Happen is my take on the prompt Fictional How-to Guide. Though I ended up veering more towards a not really fictional how-to guide. The inspiration for this is a little Jones Soda bottle cap I keep on my bedroom door frame. It says “Doors shall soon open for you”. I put it there to show that I can just make things happen. Doors open for me every day, starting with my room door. I also share some quotes and a few personal anecdotes to finish up the zine.
Beth's Weird Holidays and
How to Celebrate Them - Mixing Mascots: More Merriment Supplement
Mixing Mascots is a game Angel and I made in about 3 hours (with help from PanickedLizard) where you pitch combos of random animals and holidays to explain why your combo works out the best. We'll be giving everyone who gets these zines a copy of the game, too, as it's required to use these zines 🥳
More Merriment adds new roll tables and game modes.
Angel's Weird Holidays and
How to Celebrate Them - Mixing Mascots: A Very Merry Un-Holiday Supplement
Mixing Mascots: A Very Merry Un-Holiday Supplement is for the prompt Weird Holidays and How to Celebrate Them. We will be giving a copy of the core game Mixing Mascots to go with this zine that adds prompts and has you making a plan for new holiday traditions.
Beth's A Thing You
Found at a Flea Market That Is Clearly Cursed - FLEE! From the Market!
FLEE! From the Market! is a 28-page zine that guides you through arriving at a cursed flea market, visiting a stall, picking an item, what curse it bestows upon you, how to break the curse, and one bonus secret thing... 🤫
I challenged myself to use each die in the standard set (d4, d6, d8, d10, d%, d12, and d20) at least once, and I pulled it off! It was a lot of fun to make and I had help from multiple people.
Angel's How to Pick Yourself Up After You've Failed Getting
Something You Really Wanted <3 - If Reality Bites, Bite Back
If Reality Bites, Bite Back is for the prompt How to pick yourself up after you've failed getting something you really wanted. It’s a poem zine about laughing back at life in those moments life tries to laugh at you.
Angel's Character Studies of Mundane Objects You Own - Photographs
Photographs is my take on the prompt Character studies of mundane objects you own. Though old photographs aren’t mundane to me, I wanted to share a poem reflecting on some old family photos.
Beth's Option 35 - The
Rambling Raconteur
The Rambling Raconteur is a storytelling game for any number of players. You're adventurers relaxing at a tavern after a grand adventure, telling the story of how you succeeded in your mission. It was very dangerous, and took a BUNCH of different plans to pull it off.
I've literally only made the cover so far and done a test print on the font inside, but it has two ways to play: solo will have you telling the story from the point of view of different adventurers, and multiplayer sees each player predict what each opponent will say on one of their turns. When someone says something another player predicted, they're eliminated until one player is left, who wins! This is subject to change as I create it, though.
Thanks so much for your patience and understanding. This has been one heck of a ride!
[Beth & Angel] 21st-24th Prompt, What's Next?
🏃 Progress: 12 zines down, 16 zines behind (FINAL TALLY)
LOL whoops even more. Last week the headline should've said "11 zines down", but I had 12 there. And now it's accurately 12 as I finished Into the Dadverse last week on a stream. I still think April 19th is realistically possible, but it's not a guarantee, it's a goal :D
I also wanted to add this image below. As the final prompt was revealed, here's a list of all of the prompts along with our progress on them!
The
ones highlighted in green are done!
Streaming
Our streaming schedule (seen right here) has been changed: I didn't factor in that Wednesdays are when we clean the house, so I removed our Wednesday streams. We're also cancelling today's stream as it's the final day for the Logic & Lore Kickstarter campaign by Weird Giraffe Games, so I'm staying on top of all of the public contact methods to get quick replies back for last-day backers.
People have been incredibly helpful, and I make sure to give credit to them in the credits of the zines I make. If you want to help out too, join a stream! That link above for the streaming schedule is our Twitch page so you can check out our live streams (and streams from the last week) there too!
The Prompt for the 21st - 24th: The FINAL Prompt
In our final prompt poll, our paid Patrons voted, and here are the results:
Option 35 won! LOL I cannot believe it. This
was a joke prompt as I cleared the text of an option and Google Forms
added that. I was going to delete it but re-added it (and gave credit
to Google for the suggestion) and then it WON. So that'll be fun 🤣 I
did NOT have "prompt suggested by Google made into two
zines" on my bingo card.
My initial thoughts are still the same: when options 1-34 fail, it's time for... option 35! Currently I'm thinking of a collection of horrible-but-maybe-final-resort options for different catastrophes. Like in a zombie apocalypse, maybe option 35 is to move to Australia where all of the nightmare animals and bugs will easily eradicate the zombies, and where there's an ocean surrounding you.
I do want to give a big shoutout to everyone who recommended prompts, though. We love all the prompts in that image, and I can guarantee at least some of them will be turned into zines when we're looking for inspiration. And thanks to everyone who voted in any of the polls, too!
What's Next?
Well, you won't get an email every 3-5 days with an update, that's for sure 🤣 From here on out I plan to put out updates for big things, like if we have a special event going on, or when we finish our Zineuary zines, etc.
If you want to be more in the loop, ask questions, or check on our status anytime you can:
- Join our Discord server! We share it with Weird Giraffe Games, our stuff is under the "Quirky Bird Games" section. But we chat everywhere there :D You can also message me directly at bethmakesgames on Discord
- Become a patron (even a free one) to get more regular updates from us in your email inbox. You'll also get four games when you join and at least one game or zine each month 🥳
- Email me at CataclysmicKnight@gmail.com. I only check my email once or twice a day and sometimes put emails off, but I promise I'll reply when I have the spoons/spell slots to do so.
Note: I'm skipping the Spotlight and News sections as I don't have anything :D
🔎 Now Crowdfunding: Not Yet by Taylor Navarro and Poorna M.
(That's not my image, of course)
I'm so glad I found this! I was about to give up and promote the Armello board game (which also looks cool, and the video game was fun!) but then I found Not Yet.
From the description (I could be wrong, don't quote me lol) you each play a character living a full life. You're destined to be romantic partners, but will you ever meet? Will you become a couple?
I loved that the game is about more than the relationship. It sounds like you each get to live awesome lives of your own, which is wonderful because romance and romantic relationships are NOT required to be an amazing person with an awesome life. But then there's also that "MAYBE it'll happen" potential that's so interesting too.
I also love that you can play this straight or queer. I've seen some games that encourage or force one or the other, or that have different versions for types of couples, and it's great that this allows for total flexibility there.
The campaign page is here. And if you back it, toss a comment their way, there aren't any even though they've crushed their goal!
🙋♀️ Your Turn: We Hope You Have a Great Day!
No question this time, just some well-wishes for you! 🥳
- ✨Beth and Angel (who make zines and games and stuff)
[Beth & Angel] 17th-20th Prompt, FINAL Vote, New Zineuary Goal Deadline
🏃 Progress: 12 zines down, 14 zines behind
Once again we've gone the wrong direction, gaining 1 more zine completed and 1 more behind. But I have a couple that are almost done: the dad joke one still isn't complete, and I made one for the Hyper 1 HOUR Game Jam that'll fit the Fictional How-To Guide prompt perfectly (how to change the world with your wallet). You can check out the created-in-one-hour version here, it's free but also going to change a lot for the zine version.
Angel's also been working on zines! I've seen lots of awesome zine images from her on Canva. 🥳
As for finishing before the end of March? Well, we have 16 zines to make and March ends in 14 days, only 10 of which are business days... So that's not happening. With that said, I genuinely think we can average two zines a week each, which would mean four weeks total, putting us at April 12th. To be safe, I'm making the goal date for us to finish our Zineuary zines April 19th. I am very sorry that this puts us optimistically almost a month behind, but considering that I initially expected to make much smaller, quicker-to-make zines, I'm still super happy with that outcome.
Streaming
I'm delighted that we did all of the streams but one, which is an 80% success rate! I plan to continue this same schedule next week, and will probably continue it until Zineuary is complete, when we'll mix things up a bit by adding other types of streams into the mix.
As a reminder, the schedule of our upcoming streams, in your time zone, is right here. That link will also take you to our Twitch account where you can watch our previous videos and when we're live!
The Prompt for the 17th - 20th
Our Crowdfundr contributors voted in their final poll, and here are the results.
Wholesome horror won, which was
suggested by an anonymous contributor!
We're both anxious about this lol. Neither of us does horror stuff generally, but there are loads of scary things in life. I'm sure we'll figure something out! :D And it's another interesting addition to Zineuary, as well as some creative growth for us!
What About the 21st-24th Prompt?
Our paid patrons are doing the FINAL vote right now. You can become a paid patron at any tier ($3, $5, or $10 per month; feel free to cancel right away) before the 21st to vote too!
Plus, you'll get 32 of our creations if you join as a $5/month member (Gaming Goose) before March 25th.
The post for the poll is here.
💡 Spotlight: Vote for our Next Sequel!
I launched a poll a few days ago for which game we'll make in future Hyper 1 HOUR Game Jams (especially this Friday's). You need to be at least a free patron to vote, but if you do join as a free patron you'll get four games!
📰 News: Two Bundles We're In
Here are two bundles we're in:
- The first is March Into Hope, which is a charity-esque bundle. It's raising money for a friend of ours, Laura, who has had some hardships lately. All money raised goes to her!
- The second is Ultimate Bundle I, which is $1.55 (a weird number, I know lol) for 113 items. That's cheap as heck, and it's split between all creators. Because there are only 20 creators in the bundle, that's a 5% split per creator! 🥳
🔎 Now Crowdfunding: Logic & Lore by Weird Giraffe Games
(That's not
my image, of course)
I know I already promoted this, but the campaign ends on the 21st so I won't get another chance to share it with you.
It's $19 for a 2-player logic/deduction that's playable by all ages, even by one person who's really good at logic games and one who has never played one thanks to the variable difficulties in the box. And the art is super cool and there are dragon meeples! In fact, you can get a whole pack of 120 dragon meeples in a bunch of different colors as an add-on!
Angel and I work for Weird Giraffe Games, which is publishing the game. In fact, you'll hear Angel narrating the video at the top if you check it out!
🙋♀️ Your Turn: What Are You Most Excited About in March?
Angel: I'm definitely looking forward to taking the time to get zines finished. I have been struggling with sinus issues that triggered a migraine that lasted about a week. It took me down for a few days and I am working on getting back to things today. So, I guess I'm most excited to not be feeling as terrible as I did last week!
Beth: There's a HUGE part of me that's excited about getting caught up on the Zineuary zines, but I'm also hyped that the weather is getting nicer! I've been aiming for a walk or two every day, and now I'm aiming for 100,000 steps a week. Nicer weather means more enjoyable walks, even if these stronger winds mean I'm constantly holding my hat on my head... 🤣
[Beth & Angel] 13th-16th Prompt, More Streaming, A Lil Zine Progress
🏃 Progress: 11 zines down, 13 zines behind
I've finished a zine and gotten one to the first draft stage (it's about dad jokes and needs more dad jokes and puns in it)! Angel has been working on zines too and is close to finishing another of her own. So while these numbers went in the wrong direction, we're working on fixing that :D And I'm still very hopeful we can finish by the end of March, especially with a regular streaming schedule now.
Streaming
We've streamed a few times and had some awesome people with us each time so far! We've also gotten some great help from our viewers, and having a time scheduled to work on zines has been very effective so far for making progress.
I created a schedule of our upcoming streams that you can find in your time zone right here. This should be the case weekly until I catch up, but they're subject to change: we may start and/or end early or late, and might even cancel some.
I went into a bit of detail about what my goals with the streams are in this post.
The Prompt for the 13th - 16th
Our paid patrons voted for this prompt, and the winner is...
Character studies of mundane objects you
own suggested by Eliza!
This is another prompt I'm really excited about, and it's the second prompt from Eliza! I LOVE deep dives into objects, whether they're magical or just ordinary things. And this is a perfect mirror to another of our prompts about a cursed item you find at a flea market (I'm working on that zine now)!
Plus, this'll be another great addition to our prompt listing as it'll be another type of zine to make: a perzine about objects! That's certainly something I never expected to make, but I'm hyped to do it!
What About the 17th-20th Prompt?
It's your time to rise up and vote again! Anyone who contributed to our campaign here will get their FINAL vote, and I'll be sending that poll out to everyone today :D
PS: Sorry to be getting this to you late, yesterday was a wild day lol.
💡 Spotlight: Free Patrons Get FIVE Games Through This Weekend (the 18th)!
This month is the first of two months where ALL of our patrons (including free patrons) get FOUR games simply by being members! And since we're still giving last month's game to new members, if you join now you'll get five! I ensured that these are GAMES, not zines, so they aren't things you already have if you contributed to our Crowdfundr.
If you happen to be a patron already, you'll be getting your four games soon :D And you can read more here.
If you're not a patron, you can join for free to get all five before the 19th, and you can join anytime in the next 30 days to get the four announced today.
📰 News: Itch Is Running a Spring Sale!
Itch launched Spring Sale 2024 yesterday, a sitewide sale that creators can set their own sales for to become part of. That page there, by the way, will take you to your own personal recommendations for the sale! 🥳
We're running our own bundle of 25 games and zines intended to help you DO SOMETHING, Darn It: writing, Spring cleaning, walking, leveling up your life, and more! You'll get all 25 for $10.
If you're on the lookout for more TTRPGs, print-and-play games, and video games, now's a great time: not just for ours, but across Itch!
Spring Sale 2024 ends March 21st, but our bundle runs through the 24th.
🔎 Now Crowdfunding: Cozy Quests Collection 1 by Dice Guardians
(That's
not my image, of course)
It actually took me a while to find this lol. I don't know anyone running a campaign that I haven't shared already, and Crowdfundr didn't have any games crowdfunding that I saw, so I ran to BackerKit and then Kickstarter and finally found this. It's SO CUTE!
It's a "rules agnostic TTRPG of silly side quests and delightful diversions, filled with quirky characters, odd objects, and pleasant puzzles!" I love things like that where you can use things with any system, especially since that also generally includes the systems you find on Itch for free and stuff!
Plus, seriously, the page is SO DARN CUTE!
It's $10 to get it digitally and $15 physically. How do you say no to that if you're a TTRPG player?
🙋♀️ Your Turn: What's Your Favorite Type of Pizza?
Angel: I like nonstandard crusts. I used to make pizzas out of anything I had around like an English muffin, bagel, naan. It's a good way to use odd ball leftovers. I do this with quesadillas too.
Beth: I'm from Chicago so I probably shouldn't say this, but Detroit style is my favorite. There's a brand we get from the store that's sooooooooooo good! I still freaking LOVE Giordano's, though...
[Beth & Angel] 9th-12th Prompt, Streaming, Fulfillment Update
🏃 Progress: 10 zines down, 12 zines behind
I STILL haven't worked on a zine since our stream on the 29th as fulfillment (and figuring out fulfillment lol) ate up these last few days for me. BUT now I've got all of that cleared up, so now I can work on zines again! I have one that only needs a couple of pages, and I'm still hopeful that I can get all of my zines done at least by the end of the month (which would be a week after all of the prompt periods end).
Angel finished her Mail Order Catalog zine, which she put a lot of effort into. It looks awesome! Angel's got less time each day now because she's helping her mom with physical therapy four times throughout each day (Angel's mom got injured in late December and is still recovering).
But we're still excited to get these made, and we definitely will!
Streaming
To help me ensure that I get work done on the zines, I plan to stream myself making them. These aren't special events or anything, just a way to ensure I focus more on making zines and stop flipping between 20 tasks all the time 🤣 I'd still love to see you there though and will answer questions and stuff!
I'll announce when I'm going live on Patreon (and patrons, including free members, will get emails when it happens), but you can also just subscribe to our Twitch channel and then you'll see when we're live :D I don't plan to schedule these ahead of time so I can just hop on when I have free time and get things done. Plus, not having scheduled times means no anxiety about being late and stuff! 🥳
The Prompt for the 9th - 12th
Wow, y'all are amazing voters! FIFTY-ONE people voted!!!! That's like 1/3 of you! 😮
The
winner is... "
How to pick yourself up after you've failed getting
something you really wanted <3" suggested by Joanie!
This is sooooooooooo in our wheelhouse! I'm hyped to try it out 🥳
Also, I didn't notice it until just now but "Option 35" got 9 votes. It was... an error? Like... I must've cleared a row without deleting it and it just renamed it "Option 35." Now I'm curious about what I'd do there, like... Options 1-34 are no longer viable, it's time for... option 35!
I deleted it out of the next polls but decided to put it back as a joke 🤣 It's now "Option 35 (suggested by Google Forms lol)"
What About the 13th-16th Prompt?
This next prompt is being voted on by the paid patrons of our Patreon. If you want to take part, join before the 13th as a paid patron (starting at $3/month)! Plus, $5/month patrons get 26 games and zines when they join (30 technically but if you got Tier 2 or 3 here you already got 4 of them).
Normally people get like... 5 or 6 things when they join lol but we've been BUSY, ran a special event last month, and thanks to Patreon goals being hit people now get three months of releases when they join instead of one.
Oh, and if you happen to be a paid patron, or want to join as one, this is the post where you can vote.
Fulfillment
This week I put together a spreadsheet with who got what, sorted all of the parts into a timeline, and set up a system for showing myself what's done and what's not.
Then, I sent out emails to everyone who got Tier 2 or 3 with the stretch goals that were unlocked, emailed everyone who bought zine bundles the keys for those, and reached out to everyone who challenged us to make a zine to start a dialogue about what your challenges will be.
As a reminder, multiple things that are part of fulfillment can use more prompts for voting. Click any (or each!) of the following to suggest prompts for them:
- Challenges for our EXTRA MODE/Challenge zines
- Full game challenges (we'll also pull from the challenge zine prompts that didn't win for zines and that apply to games)
- Prompts for our zines
💡 Spotlight: Take a Break (Again!) :D
Seriously, this last month and a half has had me in marketing mode pretty much nonstop. I think you've had enough of that for a while lol. It kinda makes me feel gross anyway tbh. And besides, I promoted something up there with the current prompt vote, so yeah.
📰 News: Happy Belated International Women's Day!
Yesterday was International Women's Day. I always forget about it, but someone included me amongst some women to celebrate the day, which still always makes me so happy since I've only known I'm a woman for a couple of years 🧡 So yeah, happy belated International Women's Day everyone!
🔎 SOON Crowdfunding: You Don't Meet in a Tavern by Violet Daisy Games
I'm breaking the format a bit here to share a campaign that's
going to crowdfund next month. AnnaMaria (who runs Violet Daisy
Games) is awesome and even shared a cool sneak peek at it on our Discord
server the other day!
This is a book of ways that your adventurers can meet that AREN'T in a tavern, as that seems to happen a LOT.
The example AnnaMaria shared was super cute and clever, and I loved that it was more about the event itself and involving the players than like "Hey you're in a tavern and wow hey you meet each other! And then someone comes in with a quest!" In fact, the event in the book didn't even have to lead to a special quest or anything, it could've merely been that event, which is amazing to me!
The campaign launches on April 2nd, and you can click the FOLLOW button on that page to be notified when it launches!
🙋♀️ Your Turn: How Do You Stay Warm?
LOL it's 64f in our living room (and probably even colder in my corner as I write this) so I'm curious what you do to stay warm when it's cooooooooooold.
Angel: I feel like I am always in a state of too cold or too hot! But when I'm really cold I like to throw my blanket in the dryer for a few minutes on extra hot and then cover up with the super warm blanket to warm up.
Beth: I have a foot warmer thingy, and when it gets really cold I put pants on under my skirt lol. If it's REALLY cold I'll wear a thick hoodie and drink some hot cocoa. Yum!
That said, if I get too cold, I've got an electric blanket that has seen no love for like a year now. Or I get in a really hot shower. I could probably, y'know, move around or something, but that's asking far too much of me when I'm cold already. :D
[Beth & Angel] Fulfillment Timeline, 5th-8th prompt, THANK YOU!!!!!
Wow, okay so we made it through that campaign! Two months ago we didn't even know what we were doing. Today we have enough to cover our taxes and I don't need to rush out to get another job!
We DO have a LOT of zines to make 🤣 But we're excited to do it, and we're just as excited to send them to you. We really hope you like them!
AN IMPORTANT NOTE: Once we "Finished" the campaign (closed it down, basically) we cannot update the page anymore. I didn't know that lol or I would've edited it first... So everything is going to be untouched from March 4th and information will quickly be out of date. I will be sure to send emails to keep everyone updated. :D
🏃 Progress: 9 zines down, 9 zines behind
I actually haven't worked on a zine since our stream on the 29th, I was so busy marketing the last few days. I'm really glad I did, we basically doubled our earnings in the last week of the campaign! But now I'm behind as heck lol.
It's okay, we'll get caught up, we're extended all the way through the 24th!
And speaking of which...
The Prompt for the 5th - 8th is...
...a
tie lol between "A thing you found at a flea market that is
clearly cursed," suggested by Eliza, and "Tiny Treasures of
Time" suggested by Cookie. I used a random number generator which
came up with "1", so the winner is:
A THING YOU FOUND AT A FLEA MARKET THAT IS CLEARLY CURSED!!!
Both of these are prompts I want to make zines for, but the second I saw "thing you found," "flea market," and "cursed" I REALLY wanted that to win eventually. So I'm VERY excited about this, it's so many of my favorite things in one!
What About the 9th-12th Prompt?
Well, that's up to anyone who contributed! I'm going to send a form via email to everyone who contributed (I would've done it already but there's a glitch in Crowdfundr not allowing me to). If you didn't get one by tomorrow (March 6th), email me at CataclysmicKnight@gmail.com. I'll announce the winning prompt on the 9th in a new update.
Next Steps
My
goal is to get the first three of those things done this week:
- Send stretch goal rewards and zine bundles:
- Each Tier 2 or Tier 3 backer will get an email with the stretch goal rewards: The Spectacular Spectacles, each of our bookmark games, and the four solo journaling games (I Went to Wonderland Once, The Back and Forth, The Shopkeeper's Saga, and The (Inner) Critic).
- Also, anyone who got any of our zine bundles will get keys for those zines. :D
- Everyone will also be offered the option of a Google Drive folder where these items can be downloaded more easily. However, claiming the keys themselves means you'll be able to download any future updates to the zines, which is especially important for games.
- Ask "More Keys, Please" purchasers whether they want extra keys or to add to the community copies.
- Ask "Challenge Mode" purchasers what challenges they'd like to give us.
If we can get those things done, then the rest of the campaign is basically lots of voting and making stuff!
For the Zineuary zines, we'll be sending all of those keys together once we've completed them all. These will NOT start being available for purchase on Itch until you receive your rewards, you'll get them first.
Also, multiple things need prompts for voting. Click any (or all!) of the following to suggest prompts for them:
- Challenges for our EXTRA MODE/Challenge zines
- Full game challenges (we'll also pull from the challenge zine prompts that didn't win for zines and that apply to games)
- Prompts for our zines
OVERDRIVE MODE Reward!
Angel came up with a great idea for the OVERDRIVE MODE reward: we're going to make a list of SRDs (System Reference Documents, basically files that allow others to use a game system as their own) and zine formats and then pick one at random. Or one of each? We're still working out the details, but we have some time before we get there.
And then we're going to give this to ALL of our contributors. Yep, even the one who bought our joke "Got extra money? Give it to us!" reward that says you don't get anything 🤣 It took every single one of you to get us to that goal, so you all deserve it.
💡 Spotlight: Take a Break :D
LOL we have advertised a LOT of stuff at you over the last month. You deserve a break. You all helped us feel more secure in our lives, we couldn't possibly ask for more! Speaking of which...
📰 News: 177 Amazing People Help Make Two Gal's Year
THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE!!!! We did it! I would've been this hyped if we made a few hundred, but covering our entire tax cost and then some?!?! I checked the bank the other day and it still blew my mind we'll be able to pay our taxes AND still have savings. Lemme go knock on some wood after saying that though 🤣
We plan to go through and see how much money was given as tips, and then write a fun post on our Patreon about what we used that money for. We'll share that post here too.
But seriously, THANK YOU!
🔎 Now Crowdfunding: Hurt Party: A Game of Bad Apologies by Ami Baio/Pink Tiger Games
I've been a fan of Ami Baio's games for a while now. She makes some really unique games that highlight the way we communicate with one another and help us learn more about each other. She even made a game of compliments called Flatter Me!
This time around, it's a "party game that pokes fun at all the unfortunate ways we say we’re sorry." I think accepting responsibility for mistakes and showing it is such a vital part of relationships, whether it's coworkers or life partners. And omg these apologies hurt to look at they're so real 🤣
If
you check it out
and back it, let Ami know that Beth and Angel sent you. Or
comment the worst apology anyone has ever given you or something :D
🙋♀️ Your Turn: What's Your March Look Like?
You've seen what ours looks like in that fulfillment timeline lol, but we'd love to know what you're up to this month!
[Beth & Angel] Join our Patreon (for free!) to enter two giveaways. Expires 8 pm
Hi! I'll put out a full update later (maybe even tomorrow lol I'm way behind on work right now), but I just wanted to give everyone one more opportunity to join our Patreon and enter our giveaways.
The Giveaways
There are two giveaways:
- About 50 zines we made before February
- All of our Zineuary zines (which will be a minimum of 28: 16 in February and then three 4-zine extensions)
These are PHYSICAL collections that will be mailed worldwide, so it doesn't matter where you live. As long as you can join our Patreon (for free or paid), you can enter! And if you're already a patron, you're already in!
Sometime after 8pm Eastern tonight we'll pick both winners from our list of patrons. These will be two different people. There is NO added chance if you pay for your membership.
The first prize will go out soon, whereas the second will go out after all of the Zineuary zines are done (hopefully toward the end of this month).
If you'd like to learn more about being part of our community, keep reading!
About Quirky Bird Games' Patreon
Quirky Bird Games is made of Angel and I plus Carla Kopp, who's taken a bit of a break from the team for the last several months. Many of you may know her as the owner, developer, publisher, and all-around awesome person who runs Weird Giraffe Games, but she makes uplifting and awesome TTRPGs too!
Patreon is our main community. All of our posts are free aside from some Enlightened Egret-exclusive polls; we love sharing what we learn and our experiences.
Our Patreon is mostly made up of the following:
- New releases: We share when a game or zine is released, and we typically talk about our inspirations and important decisions made. ALL OF OUR CREATIONS ARE FREE WHEN THEY RELEASE OR HAVE COMMUNITY COPIES so if you know when a game comes out and you're quick enough, you can get it for free!
- News and updates: When something happens, we share it. For example, last month we had our Spanish translation of Everyday Enchanter. I also had an awesome person named Luis (who joined our stream on the 29th too!) offer to translate some of our zines to help promote the campaign. We were too busy then but I'll be reaching out to have that done sometime soon.
- Monthly recaps: Each month we recap what happened that month: all of our releases, goal updates, events, etc. I write a lot in them lol but you can pick and choose parts to read, or just skim the month's releases! I make sure that's easy to do :D
- Future plans: I love game jams, and I love encouraging others to make stuff, so I often share the jams I'm interested in. The Hyper 1 HOUR Game Jams (here's a playlist of the ones we've entered) and Ludum Dare (here's our latest Ludum Dare post) are our favorites!
- RETURNING: Streaming notifications: We LOVED our 8-hour stream of making zines on the 29th and want to do more! We used to stream a lot, just playing games on BGA or doing panels and gamedev. We'll share when we have plans to go live (or just hop on and go live without any planning).
If you're a patron at any tier (including free) you'll get emails when these happen, and you can comment! I always love hearing from people, it reminds me that I'm not shouting into a void lol. It's not obligated though of course :D
Free Patrons vs Paid Patrons
Whether you're a free or paid patron, you get all of the following:
- Emails of all of our posts: you never have to go to patreon.com at all!
- At least one free game or zine each month emailed to your inbox. In fact, thanks to goals being hit, you'll get FOUR in March instead of one!
- You can comment on our posts!
- All of the free games from last month emailed to you when you join (right now it's Flawesome).
Our paid patrons also get everything we released over the last two months (all of our zines, 17 in total, for $3/month Zebra Finch Zinesters; ALL of our releases, 23 in total, for $5/month Gaming Geese) and everything that qualifies while you're a member, too. Paid patrons can also send us messages (although Patreon says in the future free patrons will be able to too).
And Enlightened Egrets ($10/month) get exclusive access to monthly polls, a Discord channel, and provide 5 community copies for each new release with your name right on the page in random order (as shown below). Want more? Let us know what you'd want to see as an Enlightened Egret perk here. You can remain anonymous if you want!
You can get WAY more details about perks and which games and zines you'll get on our Crowdfundr page, just click the "Giveaway & Patreon tab." Plus we have Patreon-related goals and rewards, too, that we plan on extending post-campaign. You can check the main page of our Crowdfundr (scroll way down lol) for those.
I was going to update those pages but apparently once the campaign is finished, the page can't be edited... whoops!
In conclusion
Wow, you're still reading? Thank you!
In all seriousness, we would LOVE to have you as a member of our Patreon. And there is NO pressure to pay for that, we love our free patrons too! 🧡
- ✨Beth and Angel (who make zines and games and stuff)

[Beth and Angel] 6.5 HOURS LEFT! - WE HIT OUR ULTIMATE GOAL, two giveaways
Okay, so the format is out the window again lol, we just have a few things to share before our campaign ends in 6.5 hours.
TWO Giveaways - Join Our Patreon!
Because we reached the next total patron count goal, we've now got TWO giveaways! And you can enter BOTH by becoming a patron (free or paid):
- One winner will get all of our zines from before February
- One winner will get all of our Zineuary zines
These are both PHYSICAL COLLECTIONS! Angel printed and folded them all up, and we will mail them WORLDWIDE. This is a giveaway, so you don't even pay shipping :D
Again, all you have to do is be a patron of our Patreon. You can be a free or paid member, it doesn't matter at all.
Pssst: if you join as a $5 member you'll get TWENTY THREE games and zines when you join (four of which are duplicates if you're also a tier 2 or tier 3 contributor), plus all of the games we release to Itch while you're a member, AND you'll be helping us reach stretch goals that would get all of our paid members even more stuff!
Free or paid, we'd love to have you in our Patreon. We share a lot there, from game releases to personal stuff to behind-the-scenes info. And all of that is free to everyone! 🧡💜
$2,500 Hit!
Speaking of hitting goals, we reached $2,500 yesterday! That means all of our Tier 3 contributors will vote for a CHALLENGE for us to make a full game! And all of our Tier 3 contributors will get the game, too, of course :D Like our other challenges, unless we're especially inspired we'll likely codesign one game, not each make one.
If you got Tier 2 or Tier 1, contribute another $3 or $5 respectively and I'll upgrade you in our system. Being Tier 3 gets you a total of 53 games and zines (we got a new challenger today!) whereas Tier 2 gets you a total of 39. Tier 1 gets our co-op zine :D And due to stretch goals, Tier 1 gives TWO community copies for the co-op zine, Tier 2 gives TWO community copies for all of the Zineuary zines, and Tier 3 gives TWO community copies for all of the Zineuary and EXTRA MODE zines!
WE HIT $3,000 TOO!?!?!?!?!? 😮
LOL we were gonna end this campaign on the 29th, and we hit $2,000 then. But I extended it when I realized it'd be better to finish over a weekend, and just... WOW! I haven't updated the campaign pages but now Zineuary is extended another 8 days (until March 24th), which means another 4 zines for all Tier 2 and Tier 3 contributors!
I thought it would be cool to hit $2,500. I figured $500 in 3 days was impossible but would be amazing so we could get challenged to make a game. But then y'all have been so amazingly supportive and just..... wow! 🧡💜
OVERDRIVE MODE: ACTIVATE
Angel
was making dinner when we approached $3,000, and we were eating it
when it happened. So we quickly discussed what to do and uhhhhhhh...
Here, this'll do! Maybe we'll make a form for people to suggest
rewards and we'll pick one per $250 hit. If we hit any at all lol.
But the gist of it is that for every $250 hit over $3,000, we'll pick another reward. So $3,250 is one reward, $3,500 is another reward, etc.
Again, I would be STUNNED if we even hit one, but we have to do something lol
Keys for Zines Sent
I sent out keys for the four zines we're giving away early to Tier 2 and Tier 3 contributors. If you didn't get them somehow, please let me know by emailing me at CataclysmicKnight@gmail.com. You might just be able to reply to this email, too.
Also I'm sorry it took so long. I'd said 24 hours and it was more like 48... Yesterday was a freaking day lol and then today when I was finally sending keys out, Itch was down and I ran out, so several of you waited even longer than others ☹️
What's Next?
In the next few days, we'll send our plans for the next steps of fulfillment and stuff. I figure I'll go through each of the rewards and plan when each should be delivered. I probably should've done that before the campaign began but we rushed to throw it together...
Also, I'm not sure where on the email it is, but there's an "unsubscribe" button. I plan to continue updating with progress throughout the campaign, and then after that to share big news here as well. If you aren't interested in our campaign, PLEASE feel free to hit that button. I'd hate to send you things you don't care about :D
💡 Crowdfunding Spotlight: Several Campaigns That Haven't Hit Goal!
So this is a special shoutout to all of the campaigns that are part of Tabletop Nonstop that are still funding but haven't hit their goals yet. They're listed by when they finish crowdfunding, starting with the soonest to finish.
Some of these are like ours and will get the money whether they hit their goal or not. But one is ALL OR NOTHING which means if they don't hit their goal, they get nothing and their project won't fund.
Honestly, I was gonna describe each of these but it's getting super late so I'll just link:
- The Traveler's Guide to Flora and Fauna, Vol 1
- ALL OR NOTHING --> No-Tell Motel: A Single Player Murder Mystery RPG
- Desert Birds - A Post Apocalyptic, Cosmic Horror, Crafting TTRPG - For Children!
- Adventure Zines for a Backwards, Post-apocalyptic America
Your Turn: How Do You Celebrate?
Whether you got through a tough day or won the Nobel prize, what do YOU do to celebrate?
Angel: I set aside a bit of time to do something I haven't made time for, like playing a video or board game I've wanted to play for awhile. And every celebration deserves a cake.
Beth: I usually cheat on my diet lol - eat some sweets, eat some crunchy salty stuff, and drink some wine. I also sometimes just create whatever I want, even if it's something I doubt I'll ever finish or something no one will care about. Or I play video games. OMG I haven't played a video game in months, maybe I'll get Alan Wake 2 and play it...

Giveaway & Patreon
Once the campaign ends, we have a big giveaway planned! One person, chosen at random from the members of our Patreon (free or paid), will be asked for their address so we can mail them ALL OF THE ZINES WE RELEASED BEFORE THE CAMPAIGN BEGAN . That's almost 50 total zines!
It doesn't matter where in the world you are or when you became a patron. You don't increase your odds by becoming a paid patron. All you have to do is click here and then click that "Join for free" button on the page!
And
speaking of our Patreon, it's becoming an increasingly important
source of revenue for us. Beyond that, though, it's a place for us to
share insights about what we create, give sneak peeks into our
upcoming releases, ask people for what kind of content they want,
detail our personal lives, post about all of our releases, and more.
While we plan to make plenty of updates here, we don't want to spam
people, so we'll probably be using our Patreon a lot more to share
progress and news. Going through my February plans, I already see
18 posts we'll be
releasing. And that's not including anything about
hitting stretch goals, marketing results, or anything else!
You may have noticed that our Patreon is Quirky Bird Games, but we're Beth and Angel Make Games. What the heck?!?! That's because Quirky Bird Games is made up of both Angel and I, as well as Carla Kopp who runs Weird Giraffe Games! Quirky Bird Games has an Itch page of its own, but with extremely few exceptions the patrons get everything we release through Beth and Angel Make Games, too.
Note: "immediately" below means you'll get them emailed (free members) or messaged+emailed (paid members) as soon as I saw you joined, so unless I'm sleeping or something I should get them to you quickly!
UPDATE: Because we hit the $130/month goal, PAID patrons now get everything released from TWO months before they joined, not just one! This runs throughout all of March.
THIS INFORMATION WILL NOT BE UPDATED AFTER THE CAMPAIGN ENDS.
Free Members - 1 game immediately
To become a free member, just go to our Patreon and click "Join for free" (as shown in the image above). Some of the perks of becoming a free member include:
- Free members get keys (at least one) to games when they join!
- Free members get one of our previously released items each month, as voted on by our Enlightened Egrets.
- We often release things for jams, and when we do they're free for a brief time. Since you'll get an email, you'll know about it in time!
- And when one of our releases isn't free, we add community (free) copies, which are all traditionally taken within a day or two. If you get emailed when something releases, you have a good chance of getting one of the community copies before they're gone!
- All members (including free members) get emails about ALL of our posts when they go out. This includes our sales, so you'll be apprised of our discounts when they happen.
- You'll be part of that giveaway listed at the top of this page!
Become a free patron before the date in parentheses to get:
- (Mar 16) Flawesome: A dystopian game where you, a rebel, use forms meant to emotionally destroy human creators to uplift and celebrate them instead. It's an encouraging exercise to show people the value and joy in telling the creators of what they love that they're great!
Zebra Finch Zinesters ($3/month) - 17 games and zines immediately
This is the level you'll most likely be interested in if you're here for zines. While you're a member of our Patreon, you'll get all of our zine releases (including zine games) when they release. You'll also get all of the stuff that free members get, and when you first join or upgrade, you'll get all of our zine releases from the last month too! But remember: this campaign is an exception; our patrons won't get the zines we create for this campaign for about a month after they're created.
Become a Zebra Finch Zinester before the date in parentheses to get the following releases:
- The free member release!
- (Mar 5) Life's Little Snapshots: A series of short poems that all capture small moments and memories.
- (Mar 7) Your Move: A 24-word RPG game to move and focus.
- (Mar 21) Waffle Time: A roll-and-write game of putting delicious toppings on waffles. Two zines give you two ways to play!
- (Mar 26) The Report: A 24-word journaling game in which you give a report on your creation: Earth.
- (Apr 3) Unexpected Guests: A photo zine full of adorable kitty pics! They used to visit us, and Angel turned it into a poignant statement of embracing life as it is.
- (Apr 9) The Museum of Extraterrestrial Rarities: A solo or multiplayer game where you turn songs into extraterrestrial trash... I mean, priceless treasures!
- (Apr 11) JUST Good Cookin': "Cook up" good, fast games —but NOT great ones, please!— with this game-making prompt game.
- (Apr 16) Color Me Loved: A collection of love poetry Angel wrote about me! 🧡💜
- (Apr 16) Just Rollin With It: A collection of silly business cards in a single zine (one of which has a multiplayer mode!).
- (Apr 24) The Symbiotic Sentient: A solo journaling game zine about proving to the Earth that humans can work together after all. EXCLUSIVELY available via TIER 2 or TIER 3 (or paid patronage) for a limited time.
- (Apr 24) Dearest, I'm Stuck on an Island...: A solo epistolary game zine about surviving and escaping an island. EXCLUSIVELY available via TIER 2 or TIER 3 (or paid patronage) for a limited time.
- (Apr 25) Reimagning Mushroom Foraging: Can't get outside and hunt for mushrooms? That's okay, here are a bunch of little games you can play in the meantime!
- (Apr 26) Remember...: A Shut the Box clone you can play right in a zine! Regain your memories over three days to save the world, or fail and... don't.
- (Apr 30) A Travel Guide to the Neurodivergent Mind: Check out many of the (super relatable) places deep inside the neurodivergent mind in this trifold! EXCLUSIVELY available via TIER 2 or TIER 3 (or paid patronage) for a limited time.
- (Apr 30) Welcome to the Oldest House: A stylish travel guide fanzine to Control, one of Beth's favorite video games ever. EXCLUSIVELY available via TIER 2 or TIER 3 (or paid patronage) for a limited time.
- (Apr 30) A Memory: A poetry zine about leaving a mark on the world, made for the Mythology Edition of Zine Jam.
Gaming Geese ($5/month) - 23 games and zines immediately
Gaming Geese get the same things as the Zebra Finch Zinesters, but for only $2/month extra you get ALL of our releases when they release and everything we released within the last month too. We generally release 3-5 things a month, 1-2 of which are zines, so for a couple of extra dollars a month you get double the releases! Plus, Gaming Geese get TWO previously released items per month as voted on by the Enlightened Egrets instead of just one.
Become a Gaming Goose before the date in parentheses to get the following releases:
- All of the free member and Zebra Finch Zinester releases!
- (Mar 7) The Winchester Document: Once you start writing, don't stop... or else. A lesson in the importance of the everlasting written word, and practice in uninterrupted writing.
- (Mar 20) A Winter Tale: Write your own magical wintry tale using a deck of cards! Now includes lots of prompts to help write your tale. 🥳
- (Mar 21) Level Up!: Level up your real-life stats, then look back at the cards you've made to see how far you've come.
- (Apr 11) Roll a Recipe: Think "Chopped" but you roll for the prompts and write a recipe!
- (Apr 16) I'm Doing the THING: A Snake Oil-esque game of celebrating the mundane, awful things we do on a regular basis.
- (Apr 26) Make Your Own Fun: A set of 18 cards to breathe new life into any physical game: tabletop, card games, Pictionary, whatever!
Enlightened Egrets ($10/month) - 23 games and zines immediately + other perks
The Enlightened Egrets are few, but they're amazing. Not only do they get everything that the Gaming Geese get, but they also get access to an exclusive channel on our Discord, they get to vote in polls that affect what we do and what releases people get, and they contribute 5 community copies to everything we release (and get thanked by name for it on each Itch page!).
These are the things that I know about so far that Enlightened Egrets get exclusive voting on IN FEBRUARY alone:
- 4 separate votes for zines that all paid members will get (each Thursday in February all paid members will get one, but the first was already voted for).
- 2 Zineuary prompts (the 13th-16th and our special 24-hour zine).
- Which two releases will be brought back for patrons (the 7th-14th, the most-voted one goes to everyone, even free members; the other goes to the relevant members).
Plus, I plan to put the special Enlightened Egret exclusive Discord channel to good use this month. We're both hoping to share images and sneak peeks into what we're making as we make it, plus maybe even reach out for prompt ideas, editing input, etc. If we do, we'll definitely give credit in the zine itself (or any future game if we do that).
And they also get several more bonuses throughout this campaign if we hit stretch goals. Plus, since Enlightened Egrets are our highest tier, they also help the most with working toward our Patreon Earnings goals!
We just changed things around on the Patreon a couple of months ago, and we're still looking into some additional perks for Enlightened Egrets to make it more worthwhile to upgrade. So if you have any ideas or suggestions, let us know! Hopefully, we'll hit that stretch goal to permanently add another perk for the Enlightened Egrets and put one of them into effect; if we do, that's another thing the Enlightened Egrets get to vote on!
Speaking of Exceptions...
This Crowdfundr campaign is easily the biggest (and maybe even first?) exception to the rule of our patrons getting all of our Beth and Angel Make Games stuff immediately. We still plan to give patrons all of the zines we're creating for Zineuary and Extra Mode, but it won't be right away. Crowdfundr contributors will get exclusive access to these first for a limited time (shortly after Zineuary ends). As we add the zines on Itch, we'll give access to them to all of our paid members as well.
Meet the team
- You get our special-edition co-op zine, Be the Light You Want to See in the World, designed with Rochelle Boggs of Warped Board Games. Click her link to see her campaign and get her co-op zine!
- Once released, you add one community (free) copy to each Zineuary zine and the co-op zine. How generous!
Remember: all rewards are digital.
You're in: you get all 16 of our Zineuary zines! We'll send these your way shortly after Zineuary ends.
You also get our special-edition co-op zine, Be the Light You Want to See in the World, designed with Rochelle Boggs of Warped Board Games. Click her link to see her campaign and get her co-op zine!
And, of course, you still contribute a community copy to each of the Zineuary zines and the co-op zine when they release.
Remember: all rewards are digital.
You get everything from the Zineuary 2024 tier (Tier Two) PLUS all of our Extra Mode zines! These will be sent after they're made, and we'll start on them sometime after Zineuary is done.
Oh, and you're contributing a community copy to ALL of the zines released as part of this campaign!
Remember: all rewards are digital.
You get to choose one of the following:
- We'll give you an extra key for Be the Light You Want to See in the World, every Zineuary zine, and every Extra Mode zine (plus all unlocked stretch goal keys) to give to someone else, OR
- We'll add a community copy to each of those things, which is like gifting them to a stranger!
Remember: all rewards are digital.
We've got 47 zines in 4 bundles:
- Our A Bit of Us bundle has 10 zines of all types for $10: a poetry zine, a photography zine, four perzines (one's a coloring book!), and four game zines. It's a great way to sample our previous work!
- Our Just the Games bundle has 24 game zines for $25.
- Our All About the P’s: Poetry, Photography, and Perzines bundle has 23 zines for $20 .
- Or get ALL of our previously released zines in the aptly named ALL of our Previously Released Zines bundle for $40.
You get to pick one of our Zineuary or Extra Mode zines to get a Designer's Notes edition! Learn more about our inspirations, the decisions we made, and who we are as creators. Once made, the Designer's Notes edition will be added to the zine's Itch page. You'll get yours as part of this purchase, of course. :D
We'll choose from everyone who purchases this add-on in random order, then reach out to ask which zine you want us to make a Designer's Notes edition for.
