Hello! We are three friends and multimedia artists living in New York who are currently working together to build a ceramics studio that will hold and foster our dreams. Separately, we are Gu, Johnathan Huang, and Camila Lim-Hing. Together — and with your help — we are Good Job Clay (GJC for short), a private studio that will focus on bringing people together and inspiring each other to create art that is true to ourselves.

Camila Lim-Hing is a multimedia artist who has
been working with clay since 2014. Camila’s work explores their
multi-hyphenated identity and Chinese-Jamaican and
Floridian-Hispanic heritage. Her ceramic practice largely revolves
around memories and dreams — a space that transcends the physical
barriers of diaspora to represent their connection to an unfixed
sense of home. | 
Johnathan Huang is a ceramicist, illustrator, and
art director from Dallas, Texas, with a degree in Illustration
from ArtCenter College of Design in Los Angeles, CA. Johnathan is
a true craftsman and lover of making. He uses his anthropomorphic
frogs and other uncomplicated characters to navigate through the
rather complicated human experience. | 
Gu is a visual storyteller from New York City
with a particular affinity towards comics and animation. Her skill
for drawing breathes life into her ceramic work, which is informed
by an ongoing investigation of traditional Chinese ceramics and
techniques, and how they can be used to tell modern stories. |
For
years and across different states, we have individually been bouncing
between different community studios, looking for kiln space where
possible, and letting the places that we worked define the art we
created. Through meeting each other in New York City at the
beginning of last year, we have found an immense support system in
each other, and crafted the dream to create a space in which to
achieve our creative goals. This future space will allow us to fully
dedicate ourselves to the art of ceramics, in addition to supporting
our individual career goals. However, we need some assistance getting
this off the ground and running.

As of January, we have already secured a physical studio space in East Williamsburg, but we are still in the process of figuring out how to set up and populate the space. We are running this fundraiser to help us cover some of the heftier start up costs. This includes a new Skutt 1027 kiln, vent, and kiln furniture ($5250), the electrical rewiring for a 240v plug ($2000), four 30” x 60” work tables for building ($600), plywood and wall tracks for shelving ($550), and a used Shimpo pottery wheel ($600). We are looking at $9,000 to cover initial start up for the space, not including rent, clay, or any other individual costs/materials.
On top of creating our own work, we are also interested in
hosting events to support the broader ceramics community. Together,
we organized Potluck, a ceramics show last December at Honey’s
Brooklyn that showcased over 30 different ceramic artists. Any
additional funding from this fundraiser can go towards those
efforts, allowing us to host events and support more artists with
less financial burden on our end. Having the studio space also opens
up the possibility to host events, workshops, and other community
building activities at home base.
Us three are all in for this studio, committed to making this
dream come true. However, in order to bring the studio to fruition,
we are looking to you — our family, friends, collectors, and fans —
to help bring us over the finish line. Crowdfundr is set up so that
you can support us financially, and we can return the love with a
variety of different rewards and tiers, ranging from small gifts to
custom-made ceramics. The rewards include already existing pieces of
work to pre-orders of new work to completely custom larger-scale
pieces, which will all ship out following varying timelines, after
the studio is established, furnished, and ready to create in. Please
