We're shaking off the winter doldrums and bringing you seven new releases that interrogate identity and question the inevitable.

About the Project

Fieldmouse Press is a nonprofit comics publisher based in Grass Valley, California. This is our ninth! Crowdfundr project, this time to support the publication of the books that are a part of our Spring 2026 season. 

The goal of this project is to raise funds to offset the print costs of seven total works. We are publishing one hardcover book, four paperback books, and two minicomics.

 We've carefully budgeted printing costs, design costs, and accounted for hidden variables. We've got everything ready to go, but we need your help to make these books a reality!

About The Books

A Tale of Two Travelers by Madita Schwenke - 132 pg, perfect bound 5" x 7" paperback; black and white throughout

A tailor and a shoemaker meet and travel the same road. In this contemporary retelling of “The Two Travelers” by the Brothers Grimm, Madita Schwenke asks the question: are kindness and cruelty two sides of the same coin?

Different Ways to Fly by Rumi Hara - 16 pg saddle-stitched minicomic, full color

Known for her books Nori and The Peanutbutter Sisters and Other American Stories published by Drawn & Quarterly, Rumi Hara's work is simultaneously charming and challenging. We're delighted to present her latest short story as a part of our mini comics line.

The Most High Girl in the World by Emily Zullo - 28 pg saddle-stitch minicomic, cream cover with 1 color ink throughout

Plenty of people "go with the flow" even if they don't want to - in Emily Zullo's expanded edition of The Most High Girl in the World, we see her autofictional recollection of events in her senior year of high school. What does it take to find yourself, especially when you're surrounded by anxiety and weed smoke? 

The Cannibals by TINGUU - 84 pg, 8" x 12" hardcover with gold leaf; color throughout

The Cannibals is an 18+ queer yuri vampire horror romance set somewhere in the future in a world where vampires are regarded as worthless parasites, objects of derision, and fetish objects. The vampire Olive Yo struggles to make enough money to buy expired fake blood. Crushing on a rock star celebrity chef named Chamomile, (who only works with "ethically-sourced parasites"), an alley-way encounter leads both women on an unexpected path. Tinguu's dystopian art is deeply satirical, sexy, horrifying, and ultimately liberating.

We've already run a successful Kickstarter for Tinguu's The Cannibals, but we're including it in this campaign as a reward for anyone who didn't back the original campaign and who wanted to get the whole season.

Since 2021, Fieldmouse Press has published comics from indie and alt comics legends like Ariel Bordeaux, John Hankiewicz, and MariNaomi, as well as new and upcoming artists like Noah Schiatti and Stacey Zhu. Mari was a featured guest!    Over the last two years, we've hit our stride, and we're excited to keep publishing beautiful books with your help.

Backing the Project

Backing a Crowdfundr campaign is a little different than other crowdfunding platforms you might be used to. Click one or more perks you're interested on the right hand side of the page, and add them to your cart. You'll check out after selecting the perks you want, and money will be collected immediately. You can add multiple perks to your cart before checkout, so if you want multiple books but not the whole season, (or if you want multiple copies of the same book), you can do that before checkout. Shipping and fulfillment costs are applied during check-out when you support the project.

One of our goals when publishing comics is to make sure our artists are treated equitably, so we've already paid our artists advances on royalties and offer an artist-centered royalty for all of our books.

Funding Goal

Our funding goal is $10,000 USD. These funds will be used to directly pay for printing and transportation of the books back to our warehouse, as well as for processing fees and additional unforeseen expenses. These funds will help us keep our publishing program moving forward as we plan for 2027.

We're offering a variety of packages to help fund this print run, including recently printed books, but we need your help to make this season a reality. 

Risks

Fieldmouse Press has successfully funded and fulfilled multiple campaigns through Kickstarter and Crowdfundr, so we have the experience of crowdfunding under our belts. We are working with the amazing folks at White Squirrel Distribution to help make sure that packages get out quickly and efficiently. We were able to complete our campaign for our previous season on time and with no damaged items on returns.  We have done all the pre-work to make sure that this campaign with be successful.

We expect to be able to start shipping books in July 2026 but have given ourselves until September 2026 to completely fulfill this campaign. We promise to keep our supporters up to date with any news, including delays and uncertainties, as we work through the campaign process.
