Al Truistic's Beer Bread bakery is located in Gravenhurst, Ontario and is a social enterprise who uses a portion of the revenues from the sale of their Craft Beer Bread products to support Ontario Parents Advocating for Children with Cancer (OPACC). Their focus is on peer support; at a time when a parent has to be strongest for their child they're being torn apart inside. This is a lived experience for Al Truistic's owner Dave and there was no support for his family when his infant daughter was diagnosed with a mostly fatal childhood cancer. Parents have support and Dave wants to ensure they have it when they need it.
Al Truistic's has been retailing their two Do It Yourself Craft Beer Bread Kits of the thirteen current recipes they've crafted at markets and events in Central Ontario for the past three years and is gearing up for markets again this year. Four recipes do not use perishable ingredients while nine of them do so two more recipes couple become Do It yourself Craft Beer Bread kits.
Retailing at markets Al Truistic's has found that baking bread in particular scares a lot of people so bearing this in mind and considering that nine recipes contain a perishable ingredient they started to introduce two of the recipes as Small Batch Frozen Craft Beer Bread Dough. A mobile freezer, power pack and solar panel has allowed Al Truistic's to bring the frozen doughs to markets.
Through a chance meeting with the owner of the Sobeys store in Gravenhurst Al Truistic's has learned of Sobeys Local Development Program and has been working on getting their Craft Beer Bread Products into Sobeys stores starting with the store in Gravenhurst. The plan is to then start expanding out to Sobeys and Foodland stores close to Ontario Brewers and co-promote the products with a "Made With" label on the box to highlight local.
Helping families of children with cancer never tasted so good.
