Introducing this year’s Burning Man Temple, the “Temple of Together,” symbolising the light that emerges when we come together with all parts of ourselves and with the oneness we share with every other living being. The Temple is not just a structure – it’s a sanctuary, a testament to human ingenuity, and to boundless possibilities.
What sets apart the 2024 Temple is its ingenious fusion of ancient khaizaran wisdom with cutting-edge technology, embodying sustainability through eco-conscious practices integrated into every facet of its design and operation.
With over $122,000 raised from 537 contributors, this campaign is a remarkable success, attributed to the creator’s smart crowdfunding strategy. Let’s delve into the specifics to uncover the keys to their fundraising triumph.
1. Media Exposure:
Numerous architecture, design, and event-related websites featured the project in their blogs, significantly boosting visibility and attracting more supporters.
2. Social Media Impact:
The project creator, Caroline Ghosn, leveraged both her personal accounts and dedicated Temple profiles to share updates, complemented by posts from Burning Man’s official account, sparking virality on social media with positive engagement and widespread sharing.
3. Polished Designs:
From Temple visualisations to campaign rewards, all graphics were meticulously crafted to reflect the project’s essence, maintaining a consistent aesthetic that resonated with the Temple’s concept through colours, shapes, and fonts.
4. Well-written campaign story:
Backed by behind-the-scenes photos, the campaign story provided comprehensive details, addressing potential supporter questions, articulating the project’s vision, illustrating how each contribution matters, and transparently outlining cost breakdowns.
5. Strategic Stretch Goals:
After surpassing the initial $96,000 goal, the team introduced a $40,000 stretch goal to fund their structural engineering review and implementation in their pre-build and on-Playa build, amplifying contributions and maximising supporter impact.
The masterminds behind this campaign crafted an exceptional strategy to boost visibility, build trust and attract more supporters. Leading the charge are Caroline Ghosn as the lead artist, Maissa Sader as the lead architect, Paul Franke as the build lead, TJ Lee as the jedi counsel, Nonstop Symon as the leave no trace lead, Mike Keeler as the operations lead, and Kiana Toossi as the digital lead.
